Glass painting

I have searched high and low to find a suitable surface conditioner to paint on glass so as I can paint colour on to the glass
Maybe there is a paint that would not need a conditioner under it so as it will stick ?
Can anyone help here

There are special paints for glass painting. I don't know if you have a Spotlight or Lincraft store in your area, you can buy it there. Also most art & craft shops would stock it.....Cheers, Dee.

Deejaus, Thanking you for your comments . I have bought paint products from Spotlight and Lincraft but unfortunately these paint products have not did it for me. They are not colourful enough and they definitely won't stay on the glass for any length of time, usually the paint will last only for a few days garden_worm

Hi, Yes the pink (magenta) plate with the yellow center was originally clear. The brush strokes show a bit, but the glass is textured so it doesn't really matter. I need to get it made into something and out in the garden to test before winter is over. I do have a painted plate flower outside (on white plates). I used Pebeo 150. If you don't like how it looks you can wash it off (before baking). Baking didn't change the appearance except to make it a bit more shiny. I heard the Vitrea is more toxic. Kathy toomuchglass has used this paint too and she says it lasts very well. I plan to do some more now that the holidays are over. I can't buy the paint locally, but I hope to get to a Michaels soon to pick up another color or 2 (with one of their 50% off coupons!). We'll have to compare notes. Kathy

Sorry, I should have embedded that photo in the message; save you the link trouble. Eventually, my old forum skills/etiquette will come back to me--I'm just not as clever as I used to be. The brain seems to be collecting more cobwebs than skills. Anyway, once in a while everyone on ebay seems to be asleep and I get lucky. (I could have gotten a fabulous fox fur coat for a euro, but I couldn't stop imagining myself as Cruella Deville. Not that it stopped me from desperately buying some animal skin scarf when I was FREEZING in Berlin and nothing was open but street vendors peddling fake Russian hats--just curious how much I overpaid so I was browsing the skin aisles. I now call that my rat scarf. I'm completely ok with the wholesale slaughter of rats.) But back to the issue at hand, keep your fingers crossed that everyone is asleep again so I can acquire a friend or two. Knowing this forum, someone might come along and be able to REALLY translate it. I was confused because it seems very Cyrillic based and I was unaware that Romania used the Cyrillic alphabet. They did, but switched over 1860. My attempt at a translation is, The birth of Christ.

Hey deadpoetnj, I just noticed something. (Not sure if you're aware or not?) When viewing your photos, there is a map to the far right section under "Photo locations", and zooming it gets purdy darn accurate on location. ;) Don't know if you plugged your/an address into Picasa or not, first time I've seen that. I'm one to err on the side of caution on the web as far as privacy protection (fake info when registering for sites that really don't need a real name/address, e.g. online emails like hotmail, message boards or photo storage, etc.) So if you didn't mean for that address to show, might want to consider changing it to nothing or something more general, like State only. If you did put an address in and don't care who sees it, ignore me, LOL! ;D

Thankyou all for the warm welcome, I have been looking through all the posts and there is lots that appeals to me Iam just spoiled for choice cant make my mind up (like a child in a sweetie shop lol) posie i have tried scrapbooking and card making and loved it but just need a change, oddie i loved your baggie wreaths watched the video link you put up so Iam going to try making one of them. but i will be looking at all the projects for a while yet lol and will be asking for help soon thanks agian cheryl

Penetrol, available from paint stores, claims to be suitable for the purpose.

Sorry gardenworm, I can't help you much on this subject. I haven't ever painted on glass. I have only seen the products in the shops. Have you spoken to the shop assistants about your problem? You may be using a product outdoors that is only designed for indoors. They may be able to advise you of what to do....Cheers, Dee.

You can get certain paints that you must cook in the oven to set them more permanently. These may suit. Sorry but I don't remember any brand names or suppliers though ...

Ask at a paint shop. I used a paint a couple of years ago that was for painting on any surface such as laminates, glass, etc. I haven't any left and can't remember its name but I used it on laminate without a problem. The surface didn't need any special preparation first but I'm not sure if it was for exterior use. It was water based but not cheap.
