Well just buy a petrol mower with a key start works from a battery , my sister in Melbourne has a Victa mulch and catch with a key start. She loves it so one guess who will get a key start next time if I can find one with a honda motor.

North of Townsville I used to mow a friend garden with one of those fly mow things didn't like it at all, the grass was real thick buffalo and that mower did not do a good job at all. I hope this has helped a little...Cheers..MM.

howdy - i have one of the rechargeable Enviromowers.

It works fine for me although i don't have a huge lawn - probably about 50 square metres all up.

It cuts, bags or mulches with no probs. I recharge it probably every 6 - 8 mows and the battery has never died on me so i don't know how much longer it could go before needing recharging. The manual states that it has a battery life of around 1 hour and 20 minutes i think.

I'm not sure if it cuts better, same or worse as a petrol mower but it does the job for me! It's also quiet and light which i like. and it doesn't smell. you just push a button and it goes.

Most councils offer a $200 rebate off the $600 price tag if you trade in an old petrol mower, so you should check with your council.

Electricity is actually more poluting than petrol, only difference is the polution is at the poser station rather than in your back yard. We solved the problem by reducing our lawn to a small, well kept area of fine grass and I mow it with a flymow push mower. It's very effective, does a great job, much less noisy AND you get some excercise at the same time.

The biggest problems arise when people have too much lawn.

i was waiting to see if anyone would mention that but you are correct, buying a particular machine in this case battery electric because they "are environmently friendly?" isn't quiet rite now buying one because you have conditions that prevent you from starting the normal mower is another whole reason.

flymo's work very well in the applications they are designed to cope with, from my many years as mower mechanic when mowers are put down it is usally because they are being used outside their design principals, this comes back to buying from a specialist shop the person selling to you should first ascertain your needs (if you buy from a discounter or such retailer you pretty much are on your own in making an informed decision).

the batteries & the making of them and the recycling of them (???) is very hazardous to the environment. and also electric mowers just simply don't have the grunt of some of the petrol engine models, and the pollution caused at power stations is generally right in the middle of where your agricultural food is produced.

if you are going to buy electric/battery seek out the top of the range model don't buy a cheepie, not sure that victa would be any better than if was way back then, they had a key start then and very unreliable and not very popular. most who bought electrics of some sort where not very satisfied (especially anything painted black & yellow/orange designed as single use throw away units when something anythings wears). also it was a heavy mower for its class.
