Being in zone 7 you are probably already seeing some high daily temps I would assume. That is the major consideration for planting your plants this time of year. If it isn't too hot,you could go ahead and transplant the roses from their containers to the ground if you are very careful. Try not to disturb the rootball of the rose as mightily as you can so the rose won't completely stop taking in moisture and nutrients from the soil. If you dislodge the roots from the rootball they will have to go through a period of readjustment before functioning correctly. If you do damage rootball structure and it is very hot, the plant would probably die from lack of moisture. If you do get them into the ground with no rootball trauma you will need to water the heck out of them for a couple of weeks to help them cope with the change. I would dig the hole and fill it 3/4 full of water and then place the plant/rootball in the hole and backfill with good garden soil amended with a handful of bone meal placed in the hole just below the very top layer of soil and above the root zone. That way you can be confident the bone meal nutrients will sink into the root zone where it is most beneficial. The bone meal is good for root health. I wouldn't fertilize with any high nitrogen for fear of burning the root system. Wait for about 3 months before adding anything for fertilizer so you are sure the roots have taken hold well. Just my thoughts--it works for me. John

Konrad Your Tiger lilies are beautiful. We have the lily beetles around, if you don't watch they will decimate the leaves. Looks awful. If you spot any beetles, even one, just squash it (yuck!) or drop into jar with some water in it. Anytime there is a black gunk on the underside of the leaves (that is actually excrement with larvae in it-yuck again!), knock it off with a spray from hose. Larvae will die if not on the leaves-no food. That's best way to control them. (See photo what happens if you leave them on...) Most important is to get rid of adults so they don't breed. Hope you never see them...Rina

No MM, they don't last. I generally don't pick them but I wanted to compare the mini one. The sunflowers are a bit crowded as the kids planted the seedlings. I said about 50cms apart but they are closer to 30cms. That garden has a dk red frangi and a dwarf date palm in it but nothing else so I just plant a few annuals in it until the other plants are big enough to create shade. The sunflowers are only half out yet so should look bright and cheery soon. At least this time they are facing the house. Last time I planted them in a different garden, they ended up facing the other way.
