This is actually a new flush of leaves on Maniltoa lenticellata, Handkerchief Tree. A large tree looks like it's covered in flowers when the new leaf flush comes through. Mine is still a bit small for that effect yet.

Oh Jodi...quit that! LOL!!! I'm the craziest hippie gardener is the truth. Sometimes I wonder why am I doing all of these. 200 plus of pots of ammies WILL give you flowers almost all year round in this zone. Most of the ones in the group shot are just my ammies from last season coming back from their winter dormancy (not forced). Each variety has their own time table on when to bloom. Some bloom earlier, some later. Your collection will be doing the same next season if you let them go dormant this coming winter. For now, just keep on taking very good care of them as you are. Remember the "After Bloom Care"...What you provide them now will greatly affect their performance next season. I suggest you let them have what's best for them...sunlight. Blanca...Keep up the good work specially with the "little ones". Most probably they might not bloom again this season. It is their growing/leafing out season right now. here in my zone anyway. Provide them with all the caring they need for they will sleep early (specially the Sonatinis), earlier than the large flowered ones. Remember my email to you? Elizabeth...Pink Star is a darling. It only gives out 4 flowers/scape but as I mentioned, it can flower 3 times/year. I just got in some bulbs from RC and in fact had another Pink Star included in it. It is a "pretty in person" variety...lol! Striped Panther...What could I say? Intriguing??? Noid Sonatini shall be named "Vanessa" for now. That's until the Dutch growers register it. Such a beauty deserves a name. There were 3 bulbs of this that came in the first shipment. Raydio and Soultan got one each. I will try to start a thread on the Dutch sonatinis. Our bloomer for today, Aphrodite. After blooming last Fall before it was put to rest, still gives out 2 scapes with huge flowers as it wakes up this season. WOW RITA !!!!!you have some very pretty blooms again today,and by the looks of all them buds I seen in 2 of the pictures, you are going to have blooms for some time to come yet.DIMPLED CHEEKS is very pretty, and LAST REWARD, too.HARD TIMES and AUGUST FLAME, I love the colors of them, just not the form.Guess thats what is called SPIDERS?The red color is very pretty, I jst love BEAUTIFUL EDGINGS..Mine was planted and it kept looking worse and worse, till it got down to one tiny leave left,and I thought,I have to do some thing with it,as I dont want to loose it, so dug it back up and put it in a pot, poured root stimulator on it,and now it has 5 nice big fans and a nother small one coming on it too.CHINA BRIDE is a beauty.I just love it.Mine rebloomed on 3 scapes.It still has one bud left on it..Wow, That HARLANDS PRIDE is gorgeous.Thats my favorite along wirh BEAUTIFUL EDGINGS. Hi Rita, I'm worried about you girl! I am thinking of you as we wait for the hurricane. My favorite of these is 'Olallie Keith' and I'm slightly annoyed that they don't seem to have it this year (or Vt Butterscotch Harvest)...at least I don't see it on their website. I noticed when I visited their fields, they had lots of yellow tags on rows of daylilies and those were the ones they were sold out of and only had enough to hold for increase. I searched for 'Olallie Keith' when I was there but didn't find it (although it was 90 degrees that day and my husband was itching to leave so I may have missed some things). I also like Fountain of Life and Hard Times. Celeste

actually, they probably will not ripen indoors, unless thee is at least some yellow on the skin of the fruit. (supposedly over 7 percent yellow is needed) obviously, you can try, also, some people use them green, and make a type of cole-slaw - salad green papaya salad / Som Tum https://www.google.com/search?q=green+papaya+salad -- i fight this every year, trying to get ripe fruit before winter. i am in New Orleans (zone 9) if i protect the tree with frost cloth, and plant it very close to the house (south-side), it will come back in spring, and i get 2 - 3 months of fruit in the fall. then...' i still have to compete with the critters. they even took a fruit off the tree when i put a sock around it... LOL i am guessing my neighbor with find a sock in his yard somewhere... 2 plants next to the house, with evergreens on the side i chop the top few inches a couple times a year when young to keep them short.

They are showy, but the flowers are less conspicuous. I think most people grow them for the new leaf display rather than the flowers.

Thanks for this post . My bank has what I believe ,is one of these though the leaves are much more white.. Driving me crazy for an ID lol There is a S. Am. specie that has similar growth habit but have been unable to locate a name gary

Gary, I've seen these with emergent leaves almost white. Also seen photos of them fairly red or dark pink. Seems a bit of variation isn't unusual. There are also a few South East Asian trees that do something simlar, but I don't know of any South American ones, so can't help with a name.

The bank moved into a very upscale business addition
and the landscaping went way over the top lol. probably a dozen plants that I can't identify and nobody to ask!!lol
I googled the name you gave and found several pix of a white form Must be it though i've never seen another locally have heard of them . Thought they were flowers when I first noticed them.
The S. American type turns a brilliant red in the spring concentrating on the outer leaves then ages to a bronze
through summer and winter but is only semi deciduous.
Was fairly sure it wasn't Davidia as I don't think they'll grow here??
Anyway thanks for the name Maniltoa seems to fit
I'll have to get some pix of the landscaping WAY over the top Particularly impressed witha row of fan palms that the fronds are more white than green Have seen variagated forms but not to this degree.

The S. Am I was referring to is Browniopsis disepala also called a "handkerchief tree" The emergent foliage is spotted with deep red. Native to Ecuador Has a similar growth habit but colors are MUCH different gary
