My Correa 'Dusky Bells' has brown leaves...

I bought a Correa "Dusky Bells" from the nursery. Some of the leaves were brown on the edges. I have planted this in a large pot. It seems to be growing very well - it has only been in the pot for about three or four weeks. The plant has plenty of new growth on it but even some of the new growth has turned brown.

It gets the morning sun for a few hours but no hot afternoon sun.

What am I doing wrong?

Penny I dont grow any Correa though with most plants brown on the edge of leaves means Fertilizer burn or not enough water..

Do you water it enough as I have just searched and they seem to like moist well drained soils

Perhaps of you posted your Topic on the Australian Natives Forum you may get more helpful answers.

I didn't even realise there was a Native Plants forum.

I have kept the water up to it, being a new plant and in a pot. The soil is usually moist.

I have only used slow release native fertiliser and Seasol.

Perhaps it has some sort of disease that cannot be cured... :(

I read somewhere that Correas can get Oak Root Fungus.

I don't like giving up but looks like I may have to visit the nursery for a replacement.

Hmm, I suppose fertilizer burn could be possible, although I would think that it would affect the other pepper plant in the same container as well. I have not used any additional fertilizer, as the peppers were planted in miracle grow potting soil that's supposed to feed them for 3 months. They have been planted in this location for about a month and a half, and these brown spots on the edge have only shown up in the past week.

Hi Tam, I agree with Chris- from your description it sounds like you surely have thrips. I pulled all of my bell peppers last month even as they started to reflower b/c they started to show signs of thrip damage- new tender leaves (i.e. most yummy ones LOL) show deformity and curling and sometimes slight discoloring/darkening. Some species of thrips like the chili/chilean are extremely small and light colored, making them very difficult to see. Look closely and I bet you find your culprit. HTH Naomi

That is not a very good picture. Maybe take it outside in the sun to photo next time. But, no, it doesn't appear to be nute burn. nute burn typically looks like the edge of the leafy is drying up. turns dark brown and gets crumbly.

I hate to dredge up an old thread but I am having the same problem with my dappled willow. One half of it has turned brown and looks like it is dying. Actually I think it is dead. The other half if fine. This started last year and I thought it would recover, but no. I cut off all the dead branches and now have a weird looking half tree that looks healthy. The tree is in the middle of the yard. My only guess is maybe salt from shoveling the sidewalk, that gets piled near one side of the tree and not the other. But I would think salt in the soil would kill a whole plant not just kill half of it? There are lots of shoots coming from the trunk. I suppose I could start over rooting a new tree.
