Not sure if my zone 10 is the same as your zone 10, but if it is, then freezes killing the frangipani won't be a problem for you. Unfortunatley growing once-blooming roses (such Mme. Gregoire Staechlin) will be. Once-blooming roses need more cold weather than my (and your?) zone 10 supplies. I have never grown a frangipani, but the ones I see--and I see a lot of them, always look very bare on the bottom. In south Florida, they only grow to about 15'--almost the size of a large shrub. Most people plant small plants around the base. I think that would be your best landscaping solution. However, if one wanted a climbing rose than using a small climber or a bush that can be trained as a climber would be a better bet than using a large climber that might overwhelm your tree. BTW, How large is your frangipani?

Some of mine are so ugly, they are "cute.." : ) I have one tree "Pele" that looks like it went through a nuclear meltdown when the temps were Ahhh... very hot in the greenhouse last year.. Won't mention any names.. Cough, cough... He is still in the dog house for that one.. : ) I now have the temps under control.. This was the only one that looks bad.. So, your tree looks great to me too! : ) You are so right about our temps here.. We can have cool temps and then extreme heat. Hi Verandah, Greathawks and brissi555......I just happened to check the Australian Forum for tropical plants, is anyone still cultivate Plumerias/Frangipani ? I was actually in Brisbane for a month, visiting one of my sister and her families, she lives in the area of Chermside! Did any of you buy Plumerias at one of your local nurseries or from a website ? I'll be curious to know because I have 10 of them, here in the San Francisco peninsula. Well...good to know you....maybe you can check the GardenWeb Forums/Plumeria !!
