I wonder about this all the time

What do we all do with the garden photos that we take every week to see if our favourite plant has grown a mm or got a new leaf.

I have that many I have started to load them onto a DVD disk so as to free up the computer a little bit.

I wonder if there is a comercial value for old photos ?

Maybe a distant relation might want a few pic's.

Once garden pics are taken and later, down the track, the plant dies, well.... ! what the heck's the good of a pic of a dead mate. ?

Anyone got any good or clever ideas ..... ?

I seemed to have used up my last clever idea when I decided to dig up the lawn and put in lots of gardens and ponds etc .

My only question now is where did I get such a clever idea from ... ?

Mine go onto my 1gig chip on my PSP, with a lovely sized screen for showing them off. You can file them under various headings, and do them as a slide show, zoom in and out, show the names/details of each photo as it displays. etc., etc. (lots of etceteras I haven't even learnt about yet). My 83 year old mum loves it.
I can transport photos easily from my computer to my kids computers, and it all fits neatly in my handbag or pocket.

Our computers run from a server. So our photos get stored on there. (wish I actually understood what my husband means by a server). He is the computer whiz, I am the gardner.....happy to leave it that way too!

Thanks, Greg! It is a bit cooler today...but it comes with a cost - much higher humidity. I'm used to dealing with humidity in the 15% - 30% range during the Summer, but last night we had fantastic lightning and thunderstorms, culminating with a heavy downpour of rain in the early morning. Around 10am, another cloud opened and soaked me where I was working in the cornfield (spreading fertilizer). I was already drenched in sweat, and the humidity just sky-rocketed from there. Anyhow, it's about 94ÃÂ°F now.....I slipped out of work a little after 1:00 to avoid the sickening heat that begins to rise right about this time of day and just bakes us on through 6 - 7:00. Thanks for the compliments on the scenery ;-) Yessir, that's the backyard...overlooking my garden, my grapevines, my grove of Black Bamboo. At the house, there's shade under the Blue Oaks, so it's a little easier to keep the garden green. Josh

Breezy- I usually try to be more tactful, but just in case I wasn't clear, here goes. I don't think the open cabinet look will go with the rest of your kitchen. I also don't like the little open shelves, as you have them on the mock up. There is too much color, compared to the rest of the space, IMHO. I do think dishes in the same or a similar color...maybe white, light blue, cream, light green...would look nice with the smaller open shelves. Davidro's idea of the narrow shelves over the cooktop sounds really good (again, IMHO) and would look great with similar colors to the smaller open shelves. If you could keep a soft, more neutral color scheme with your dishes, I think the larger shelves would work, but how realistic is that? You probably need the storage, so I would go with the two doors. And, FWIW, one of my kitties would end up on the open shelves, if I had that set up. Perhaps your kitty (and any future kitties) are much better behaved. Most of mine are...but there's this one little guy. It's a good thing he's so cute and cuddly...LOL. That is why I plan to have a plate rack and glass doors for storage. You have to know your limitations :)

It's so interesting to read this (but I truly am sorry for your plight) because I JUST had a conversation with some good friends about this. I'm thinking of redoing the cabinets in my kitchen. My friends and I have shared trades people - they recommended a wonderful man who is a cabinet maker but also makes these exquisite clear vertical grain cedar screen doors. $$$, but so top quality. After I saw theirs, I had him make one for me and, oh my, he is a perfectionist - furniture quality screen door that closes gently, no slamming required. He took it home to microplane it a few times to get it exact. Wonderful finish. He and I talked about my kitchen cabinets and after the gorgeous screen door, I told my friends I was thinking of hiring him to do the kitchen. "Oh no, he is a nut case." They think he's really over the top on the perfectionism and would NEVER be able to finish a kitchen - nothing would ever be perfect enough. They suggested a cabinet maker who did my bathroom cabinets and on my recommendation built a window seat for them. Gorgeous things all. But I then hired him to redo a second bathroom and he totally flaked out; had some kind of nervous breakdown or something??? So he's out. Then we started talking about all the men who build cabinets that we've known over the years, all of whom seem to be (unstable or something). One other committed suicide. Is it the exacting work? Is it work that draws a certain personality? I don't know and I mean no offense to those who have perfectly lovely spouses, relatives and friends who are cabinet makers who are not like these men we've experienced. But it made me so curious why we've had these high percentages of guys making cabinets who either start out with problems or end up with them. Now your guy. I hope you get some resolution and that if he really is sick, he gets well soon.

Yes, Flamingo, I save the peels of citrus and simmer with cinnamon sticks and whole cloves. I love the scent, and it adds humidity to the dry, winter air, too. I was going to add that grapefruit shouldn't be eaten if you're on levothyroxine (Synthroid), but I quickly googled to make sure, and it apparently doesn't have much of an impact (see here). I've been avoiding grapefruit for years because I thought this was the case. I'm going to buy some tomorrow--I love grapefruit. Anglo, your salad sounds divine. And Meyer lemons, which are becoming available again in my neck of the woods.

It's sort of like a hub - the stuff from the outside world comes to the server, and the server ...um...serves it I suppose .... to the computers connected to it. It's big and stands in the corner and goes down on a regular basis.
We have 2 servers at work - one upstairs and one downstairs - don't (please don't) ask me why - maybe the data has trouble going up the stairs? To these, there are about 2 dozen computers connected. The servers have firewalls to keep out the nasties, and the server is backed up EVERY night to ensure stuff isn't lost incase of virus attack. The back ups are kept in a bank safe - that's the advantage of working out of an old bank building :-) (and much nicer than tanks of acid - a la snowtown)

Play station portable. About 6" X 4" with a huge screen, and excellent quality image reproduction. a 1 gig chip holds nearly 2000 photo images.

My son wants a PSP (actually begs for one) so wouldn't I be in trouble if I bought one for photos only :) Tempted to get one just for the satisfaction of seeing him beg.

I think that's all it is - a standard memory stick. Same as you would use in palm held.

I think the PSP is rediculously expensive though around $400 retail and to get the 1GB stick you have to spend abit more....

i rather just view photos on the computer... no matter how big PSP is it doesn't beat a computer screen and you can burn your photos off on cheap $1 blank cds rather than $100 memory chips...

The kids around think its the "gig" to own a psp you'll earn heaps of friends.... those attention seekers.
I was tempted to get one but after a while i decided to spend that $500 on more plants....hmm how much can i buy with 500...

Nobody says you have to do it the same way as I do tsunami2. My husband bought me my PSP for this purpose. I'm happy with it. He offered to let me have his old palm held, which would have done more stuff, and certainly cost a lot more although it was a business expense. Instead i suggested he let one of our employees use it. Of course you need the computer too, to put the photos on the PSP, but obviously we all have them, or we wouldn't be here. I know plenty of people who think they are an unjustifiable waste of money :-)
Printing out photos is not an option for me because I would need a far better printer, and can't justify that expense, as i don't need it for anything else. I find the reaction to showing people photos on my PSP is far better than when I drag out the envelope of photos, or the album, but I am sure that is partly the novelty value.
Actually the PSP screen is far better than MY computer screen. It automatically focuses, and you can zoom in and out at ease, plus a number of other useful features.
The 1 gig memory chip cost me $150 BTW.
Not looking to "earn" friends with mine :-) particularly not trendy kids, although my 3 year old Grandson's admiration I enjoy.
I'm sorry you don't think I was justified spending $550 on my new toy, but I would be curious to know how many holidays you have enjoyed over the last 20 years, and what you have spent on them? Each to their own, and don't be too critical of what others enjoy. People don't always have the same priorities in life.
