I wonder about this all the time

What do we all do with the garden photos that we take every week to see if our favourite plant has grown a mm or got a new leaf.

I have that many I have started to load them onto a DVD disk so as to free up the computer a little bit.

I wonder if there is a comercial value for old photos ?

Maybe a distant relation might want a few pic's.

Once garden pics are taken and later, down the track, the plant dies, well.... ! what the heck's the good of a pic of a dead mate. ?

Anyone got any good or clever ideas ..... ?

I seemed to have used up my last clever idea when I decided to dig up the lawn and put in lots of gardens and ponds etc .

My only question now is where did I get such a clever idea from ... ?

Mine go onto my 1gig chip on my PSP, with a lovely sized screen for showing them off. You can file them under various headings, and do them as a slide show, zoom in and out, show the names/details of each photo as it displays. etc., etc. (lots of etceteras I haven't even learnt about yet). My 83 year old mum loves it.
I can transport photos easily from my computer to my kids computers, and it all fits neatly in my handbag or pocket.

Our computers run from a server. So our photos get stored on there. (wish I actually understood what my husband means by a server). He is the computer whiz, I am the gardner.....happy to leave it that way too!

Yes, those look like privet flowers. The question is, were those flowers fertile and produced berries? Sometimes flowers are sterile and don't produce fruit/seeds. Yes, the X does mean it's a hybrid. Being a hybrid just means it has two parents that are different and you can not infer good or bad ... unless it makes it self-sterile and you wanted something self-sterile ... then it would be good, right? But then sometimes a plant is self-sterile until someone introduces a plant that makes that self-sterile plant fertile ... that happened to the cultivar 'Bradford' in the ornamental pears. And now thousands of 'Bradford' pears are producing unwanted seedlings. Even though I'm in Georgia, I was referencing information about the invasiveness of this plant's parents in the midwest. Down here, the problem privets are the chinese and japanese ones. So glad you are willing to learn, phyl! Hopefully others will chime in on this.

The hybrid musk class seem to be able to throw their scent about a bit - most of the other roses need my nose to be practically inside the blossom. Kathy is right, brugmansias smell gorgeous as do many lilies, especially L.Regale. Zaluzyanskya is a lovely night scented phlox type plant from S.Africa, I think, that also smells lovely. Finally, I would love to be able to grow the night blooming cereus cactus, Queen of the Night. But oh, my absolute, all time, favourite scent has to be primulas, especially auriculas....and probably the daphnes too...and Christmas box...oh the list is endless.

Thanks, Greg! It is a bit cooler today...but it comes with a cost - much higher humidity. I'm used to dealing with humidity in the 15% - 30% range during the Summer, but last night we had fantastic lightning and thunderstorms, culminating with a heavy downpour of rain in the early morning. Around 10am, another cloud opened and soaked me where I was working in the cornfield (spreading fertilizer). I was already drenched in sweat, and the humidity just sky-rocketed from there. Anyhow, it's about 94ÃÂ°F now.....I slipped out of work a little after 1:00 to avoid the sickening heat that begins to rise right about this time of day and just bakes us on through 6 - 7:00. Thanks for the compliments on the scenery ;-) Yessir, that's the backyard...overlooking my garden, my grapevines, my grove of Black Bamboo. At the house, there's shade under the Blue Oaks, so it's a little easier to keep the garden green. Josh

Cindy, thank you, I do love a variety! Isle of Zanzibar still mesmerizes me when I see it bloom! Lisa, I've had Morrie Ott for about six years in my garden. It is one of my all time favorite mini's. Some of those pretty edges you refer to had a hard time opening this morning. Mississippi Memories being one of them. Sharon, thank you. Enchanting Esmerelda is one of those that need to be in the garden for its performance and beauty. Will always reside here! Julia, I love my neck of the woods because the dormants do well here as well as MOST of the southern breds. I feel I have the best of both worlds as far as what I can decide to grow here! I've had Cerise Masterpiece three years. It has not increased rapidly for me here. Started as a single fan, now has three fans and the blooms still are not pristeen. Hopefully it will show itself off a lot better by end of this season! dreamingdaylilies, I moved Way Past Cool to my new deer protected bed last fall, so this picture really doesn't show it in its full beauty. I'm sure it will settle in nicely tho. As far as Morrie Otte goes...I've never had a problem with Morrie here. You might be right as far as temps being too cool. Rita, one of the reasons I like looking at all your picks! You have so many things I don't that I get nothing but pure enjoyment looking at yours! It's sort of like a hub - the stuff from the outside world comes to the server, and the server ...um...serves it I suppose .... to the computers connected to it. It's big and stands in the corner and goes down on a regular basis.
We have 2 servers at work - one upstairs and one downstairs - don't (please don't) ask me why - maybe the data has trouble going up the stairs? To these, there are about 2 dozen computers connected. The servers have firewalls to keep out the nasties, and the server is backed up EVERY night to ensure stuff isn't lost incase of virus attack. The back ups are kept in a bank safe - that's the advantage of working out of an old bank building :-) (and much nicer than tanks of acid - a la snowtown)

Play station portable. About 6" X 4" with a huge screen, and excellent quality image reproduction. a 1 gig chip holds nearly 2000 photo images.

My son wants a PSP (actually begs for one) so wouldn't I be in trouble if I bought one for photos only :) Tempted to get one just for the satisfaction of seeing him beg.

I think that's all it is - a standard memory stick. Same as you would use in palm held.

I think the PSP is rediculously expensive though around $400 retail and to get the 1GB stick you have to spend abit more....

i rather just view photos on the computer... no matter how big PSP is it doesn't beat a computer screen and you can burn your photos off on cheap $1 blank cds rather than $100 memory chips...

The kids around think its the "gig" to own a psp you'll earn heaps of friends.... those attention seekers.
I was tempted to get one but after a while i decided to spend that $500 on more plants....hmm how much can i buy with 500...

Nobody says you have to do it the same way as I do tsunami2. My husband bought me my PSP for this purpose. I'm happy with it. He offered to let me have his old palm held, which would have done more stuff, and certainly cost a lot more although it was a business expense. Instead i suggested he let one of our employees use it. Of course you need the computer too, to put the photos on the PSP, but obviously we all have them, or we wouldn't be here. I know plenty of people who think they are an unjustifiable waste of money :-)
Printing out photos is not an option for me because I would need a far better printer, and can't justify that expense, as i don't need it for anything else. I find the reaction to showing people photos on my PSP is far better than when I drag out the envelope of photos, or the album, but I am sure that is partly the novelty value.
Actually the PSP screen is far better than MY computer screen. It automatically focuses, and you can zoom in and out at ease, plus a number of other useful features.
The 1 gig memory chip cost me $150 BTW.
Not looking to "earn" friends with mine :-) particularly not trendy kids, although my 3 year old Grandson's admiration I enjoy.
I'm sorry you don't think I was justified spending $550 on my new toy, but I would be curious to know how many holidays you have enjoyed over the last 20 years, and what you have spent on them? Each to their own, and don't be too critical of what others enjoy. People don't always have the same priorities in life.
