I love my Satsuma. For me the fruits ripen relatively eary -- over Fall and into Winter indoors. And they are sweet, easy to peel and seedless. What more could you want? The plants can also take some chill outside in the Fall. They're not nearly as tender as, say Key Lime. Satsumas are among the most hardy of the edible commercial citrus. The only possible downside is the fruits reputedly don't 'store' well on the tree for a long time (unlike grapefruit)...and they tend to bear seasonally (as opposed to Meyer Lemon which can flower and fruit any time of the year). I also have a Ruby Red Grapefruit in a container. I leave the fruit to ripen much of the winter and it gets sweet with time. With more heat it likely would have ripened earlier. Also, indoors it does not get that red coloration, but I don't care. I've heard good things about Oroblanco (which I believe is a hybrid between a white grapefruit and Siamese Sweet pummelo). Generally pummelos don't need as much heat to sweeten up. I also have Meyer lemon and Ponderosa lemon. Lemons are great, but don't compare with Satsumas in my opinion. No experience with Trovita. So, if I had to choose only one citrus to grow, it would probably be a Satsuma! Just one more opinion! I would make sure you have a bright spot indoors for it.

Venture, each one of the flowers are fruits,when the flowers buds fall you'll see tiny rock hard round fruits.They come generally in clusters.And some of the fruits will fall off by themselves at an early and tiny stage...this is nature aborting one to many in a cluster.Don't be alarmed by this just gather the ones that have fallen and throw them away. The ones that stay on your tree will only be stronger and bigger because of this. Meyers are good producers,and will fruit twice a year for you.I just picked around 20 ripe fruit off mine last week,and still theres at least 20 more.This is the same with thing to look for with all your other citris in way of fruiting.You should be enjoying the scent of the flower buds also.Citris are wonderful in many ways to grow.....Good growing to you.***Suzanne

As others have said, it's usually the first fruits that can have BER. As the plants continue to mature the following fruits usually don't have BER. Just a growing plant is a stress to the plant for most varieties and thus they don't handle Ca++ distribution in the plant well, but older plants do handle it better. But for sure paste type tomatoes are much more susceptible to BER. Carolyn

I get NONE, except for lemons on my meyer for my fish dinners and a few Oro grapefruit which I give to my boss for letting me bring to work. lol. Literally, there is not a one that deserves any of my fruit since NO ONE helps me care for them, nor are interested in my trees..I don't even eat citrus. I grow them for fragrance. I am getting a new tree, a Kishu which I can eat and I am hoping I get lots of of that. As for the other 30 or so trees, I pluck every fruit off before they can even grow, except for my lemon meyer which I use on my fish, saying about 4 pounds and my Oro, about 6 lbs..
