Thought I had better put on a flower pic first.

They made another nest and if the last one was not bad enough this one must have been a lot

stronger even if it was right on the tip of a branch.So high up there amongst the cables is this

little family of Noisy Miners.

I had to crop all of these so that you could see them. So the quality is not very good.

Still waiting and waiting for my Telephoto Lens nearly two months now.

great pictures, what a happy family but I reckon Mum and Dad need to learn how to build better to save you the worry.

Good grief!! How on earth does it stay up there? I'll be hoping it doesn't get too windy for them.
That pink gerbera is a beauty! I've never seen such a fine petalled one before.

adkinska, no darn wonder and thank you for the obvious trouble you went to for me. That looks exactly like the schematic in my manual, and I was starting to think that, too, as it is the only way I could envision that looked like the schematic. No wonder I was confused. I don't think that's what the guy at the hardware store told me on the phone, and I watched them one time trying to fill and start it before making out a ticket. He definitely was doing it just tilting it to the side and pouring straight from the plastic container of oil. Wasn't getting anywhere with that, wouldn't start, said I got it all spilled onto the spark plug and other parts, and would have to be all cleaned out which was probably true. So to be doubly sure here, you are saying that I should tip the engine FORWARD like that (perfectly clear, just went and tried it) for BOTH filling and checking? They only had that one tiller, and I don't think they know a whole lot about it to be honest compared to the other one they sell. I will emblazon that magic number 2.7 oz in my brain and find something more exact to measure it with and fill very slowly. A baby bottle comes to mind, maybe my new measuring cup(s) has oz on it. In time, I should gain more confidence about that. What a difference a good explanation makes! First I will try what you said before bothering my son about it and hauling it back over there. You don't know how much I appreciate that! I will check if 10W 30 is the same as the SAE 30 they sold me that I've been using, knew not to put my snowblower/lawnmower oil in it from that older thread.

Hi thank you both for answering. First, I have a Hummingbird Vine and the other is a Wisteria. I was bummed because the seller mentioned they are ready to go into the ground! So I thought, YEAH! I have never had luck with dormant plants. I had soaked them overnight (in a cup), as I have done with all of the dormant plants, because there is always a little instruction sheet that recommends that I do so. So maybe that is where I am going in the wrong direction. So sorry, I was a little misleading, once they were planted I just watered enough for them to be wet. I had also thought of the grass because that was recommended also. That's OK I can replace it with muclch, no problem there! I was just hesitant to do that because I seem to remember reading not to initially use mulch as it will be more of a hinderance. I will take your suggestions! Hopefully I will have some blooms in a few months, or at least signs that there is life :)

Will I get a different tomato from the seeds that are produced from the fruit due to cross pollination? If you're asking whether the plant grown from Dad's 2012 tomato will yield tomatoes just like that one: It depends whether Dad's plant was hybrid or open-pollinated. Do you know the variety name? But if Dad's tomato was an open-pollinated variety and that particular fruit had been cross-pollinated with pollen from another variety on his farm, the tomatoes you get this summer might be quite different from the fruit you ate last year. In any case, cross-pollination only affects the plants grown from the seeds of the fruit. So the fruit you'll get from Dad's plant this summer will all be true to the genes in that plant, regardless whether those flowers are pollinated with pollen from that plant or cross-pollinated with pollen from your Bonnie Original or Improved Park's Whopper or a neighbor's tomato. However, when you're talking about plants grown next year from the seeds of your 2013 fruit, it depends on whether those particular flowers are cross-pollinated.

Well...I have recruited the help of "The dietitian!"...my friend and often co-cook, who knowas lots about amounts etc... My other side kick, the caterer, is on the gulf coast! The bread is not regulart bread but unsliced French bread....about 4 to 5 inches in diameter, and the sausages are those little smokies cocktail things, on special for super Bowl sunday! In a meeting of the minds, with The Dietitian and me, we decided that 5 eggs per pint of milk should be about right. And we figured out we wanted to use one egg per 3 slices of bread. so I will buy 6 dozen eggs and 2 gallons of milk, realizing that some kids will want "vanilla milk" instead of chocolate. And we will monitor the intake of the little smokies. We will buy canned peaches and have fresh pineapple, bananas and grapes (the grapes weren't my idea)...some fruit will be donated...like bananas and a pineapple. I have 3 "fryers" abd others to do the dishing and pouring milk etc. And I just had an email saying that about 5 choir members will come early for practise so they can eat....will I have enough? Sure I said! The baked stuff in theory sounds easier...b ut for that nunber...it's really easier to fry and slap on platters in the oven, and put the plattersd on the table as needed, than to construct 10 casseroles. BUT....I won't be buying eggs nor nmilk nor the fresh fruit until we see what the weather is!! not supposed to be bad....but the reason I am cooking this week is because there was a weather cancellation and the person who was supposed to cook, can';t...

Too much wriggling and the nest would fall apart. You would think they'd make a bigger nest but I suppose if it was too cosy the babies wouldn't want to leave.

Great gerbera. My grandfather loved gerberas, it was the only plant he grew.

I think you should help them build the nest.I leave nesting material I buy from the pet shop pegged into the tree that the noisy miners sit in....a jacaranda actually and they pull the stuff apart and fly off and build the nest with it. I also leave lengths of wool pegged up, they use that too. I also leave pieces of the linings that go in hanging baskets pegged up for them too. They love it.

gorgeous gerbera mm. things are a bit cramped in that nest arent they? lol, I hope it stays up there and you dont need to go up and do any repairs this time

Thanks everyone, yes the Gerbera's are pretty, my lovely neighbour gave me all of those doubles.
I have a few of the single ones also but they all seem to be different shades of deep pink, so almost the same.
TG the nest is too high this time and right out on a limb so to speak but they are ok, they all flew away today.
Michelle there is no waiting around to take the bird pics they are just there everytime Iam in the garden.
HJ I dont have to leave things around for the nest they find everyhing there is plenty of building supplies here.

I wonder when they will build another nest, that's the third one now.......Cheers..MM.
