Can we assume this is one of the more powdery mildew prone rose varieties in your collection?If so,which sprays do you apply and how effective do they seem at preventing spread on to new growth (ie.1 days,5 days,or even 0 days etc)?
Some rose varieties require slight variations in their culture to achieve acceptable results depending on their growth habit and susceptabilities to various diseases.
There could be hope for PM yet.

If it is mildew you could try 1 part milk to 9 parts water. Spray it on the foliage. I would also do the seasol routine every two weeks to try to get the root growth happening. If it still doesn't perform do a spade threat! Good luck.

Thrip...I treat all the roses with Triforine for powdery mildew and yes, this rose is very susceptable to pm . I have tried the water and milk formulation once or twice ,I havent been consistent.I also use Yates Rose Gun and Rose Shield.
I get fed up and then go with the chemicals!
For this rose , the powdery mildew doesnt go away no matter what I try.It has always been the case now I think back.
Its been a slow grower from the begining and now its really struggling..
After I have tried any treatment, chemical or otherwise, the leaves curl and shrivel up .The pm is always back the next day or two.There is very little sign of new growth. This is obvious when compared with my other roses that have little or no pm and have strong new growth.There is one other rose I have that gets pm a bit..Christian Dior.
Maybe the rose is not coping with powdery mildew or the treatments?
I will also step up the seasol , I havent done it for a while.Perhaps this rose needs it a bit more.

I know how you feel Michelle.Powdery mildew is an old adversary of mine as I've had a bit to do with growing roses under polythene covers where it's a serious almost continual problem.
Heres a list (point form) of things I've discovered over the period which may help.
*All potted roses whether well irrigated or not are more prone but even just one drying event immediately increases problem.
*Triforine has not worked "for us"
*Commercial chemicals have failed for us and many other growers too(not sure whether this is case for all growers)
*Have not tried milk spray but am interested in experimenting
*pest oil and bicarb does provide control when conditions are against development of pm but will only slow down the inevitable when disease pressure is very high.
*most spray options damage foliage and can make plants unsightly but this depends greatly on prevailing weather conditions.
* sprays need to be applied beneath leaves to prevent pm and if your spray does not spread on leaves(and most don't, including oils) a wetting agent must be added.Both these measures also increase spray burn/phytotoxicity = downward spiral
*Dewy,humid,cool nights are high risk however
*free water on foliage such as provided by rain or overhead irrigation kills pm very effectively
*Plants which are partially protected such as near eves or walls on houses or under polythene coverings are very high risk for pm because they rarely have free water on leaves for any period of time.This also makes them high risk for mites while often reducing black spot incidence to zero.
*genetic resistance to pm does exist and is a great help toward control.
If you decide to give your rose another chance , then try some overhead watering (I can hear all the gasps) if your allowed to(ie drought).Concentrate this approach during pm coducive weather (cool humid nights).Water early enough to allow foliage to dry before nightfall but the longer watering period the better for erradicating pm.I don't recommend this approach during the colder periods ie cooler autum periods or Winter as you'll end up with downy mildew which is far more serious.During these periods stick to oil/bicarb or milk spray (if it works for you).Spray burn risk is low then anyway.
Sorry about the long response here but you know what they say about a little bit of information.I'll understand if you spade prune (as Yvonne puts it) anyway.

Yes- there were audible gasps when the overhead watering was mentioned!!!
However I think you are right.
Nothing chemical works on this rose.I have tried other chemicals and the result is the same.
I will definitley try the overhead watering and be consistant with the milk/water routine.I really didnt give this a fair go.
The Christian Dior is the same so I think I will try the approach on that as well.
You know... I have 54 roses both in the ground and in large containers and I have never come across this pm problem when I havent been able to manage it.
No, I havent given up and taken the option of "spade prunung". I am going to continue for a while using your advice.I am thinking of it as a challenge and I dont give up easy.
I have only lost 1 rose in all this time and I didnt like it much anyway so I have a fairly good record!I planted it in a bad spot..etc

Hi all...back again!

I have some success with this troublesome rose and also Christian Dior both very susceptable to powdery mildew.In fact they have it chronically.

Thrip: I tried your overhead watering trick and I think it has really helped. Perfect Moment is looking much better and I will need to work a bit longer with CD.

Hi Michelle I am pleased to read that you are having a little success with Perfect Moment.
I will have a go at watering overhead too, its just the carpet roses that are getting the P.M.
I will have to do mine before 7am on the hose allowed mornings as doing it after 7pm may add to the problem.
I find that my Standards do not have those problems but plenty of other ones instead.

Yes ,MM, I still get powdery mildew on some other roses.Its always the same ones:
Charles de Gaulle
Christian Dior
Perfect Moment
Angel Face.
By far the 2 worst are Perfect Moment and Christian Dior.They have it all the time.
MM do you have any particular rose that seem to be more susceptable than others?
I can generally get control on the other roses but these 2 are very difficult.
Its strange isnt it?
Try the overhead watering. It certainly seems to make a difference.

I now know what has happened.
My DH has dug it up and said that it had not developed a decent root system in its new spot.
So it has gone to the family farm for revival!
I tried everything and am glad that I now know what the problem was.
I will get another one next year as a bare root and start again.
