In Netherlands you probably have Neudorff's Ferramol available, and it's worth trying again in my opinion. It's much the same stuff as Sluggo. It works very well against all sort of snails without shell. The ones with shell tend not to spend time enough on the ground to attract them. It does help to pick them. Check dailias daily, the are slug magnets. A piece of honey or canatalupe melon is really (!!!) effective too, if you have time to check now and then and pick them. Iron sulphate and picking really helps, and pretty fast too. Withing a short week I can go from mass invation and picking about 100 a night to hardly find any. This is what I do, and it works very well here. Ferramol has been around for ages and does well in tests. There's the nematodes you water into the ground, some regard these as the most effective in the long run, but you haveI to keep it up for a couple of years. Best of luck with the slugs. It doesn't have to take a long time for you to notice major improvement :-)

I have some eggshells that I failed to crush up that are in a batch of nearly completed compost. They still look like the day they were put in! When the compost is done I'll either take them out and throw them in the next batch or crunch them up and just use them for slug control. bradley - I notice the same thing sometimes.. for some reason I'll see something in there that should have been long gone and wonder what's up with that. However, a dead squirrel - hair, bones, and all - disappears in a matter of days. Glad about that one.. I was nervous about putting it in there, but I couldn't stand to just see him laying in my neighbor's yard.

I know there are snails, but I don't see any evidence of slime or shells. And I also thought this looked too big for slugs or snails. I thought rats because we have palm rats in the neighborhood. I have fought them for years. Unfortunately, my next door neighbor does nothing about them and she has an untamed jungle. Rats have even eaten large parts of her garage door! I haven't seen any squirrels, but we have opossums and even skunks (I have smelled these guys!). I don't think the various lizards - anoles, iguanas or monitor lizards - will eat the plants. My sedums and aloes are fine. Maybe I can set the security camera to record out there and I can catch a glimpse of what is doing it. Worth a shot, I guess. Thanks! I don't see any reason you couldn't. If you have a LOT though, crushing too many at once could cause an odor. Snails don't smell very appealing when smooshed. As for the calcium though, yes. Snail shells are filled with calcium, although they will take a while to break down. I add empty shells from deceased aquatic snails (freshwater, not saltwater) all the time when cleaning the aquarium.
