Thank you, Oviedo. I did a google image search and yes the flowers and the newly formed fruits of my tree look like a persian/Bearss Lime. Except my tiny oval fruits are more elongated, but overall they are very similar. I don't remember seeing any thorns, have to check on that when I get home. The HomeDepot currently are carrying a lot of Meyer Lemon trees and I have had a chance to do a comparison. They are obviously different. My tree has much bigger leaves and they feel a lot softer, especially the new leaves. Flowers look more delicate. The Meyer trees they have mostly carry a couple decent size lemons already, which enticed me to get one. $50 for a 3.75 gallon plant. I'm waiting to see whether other stores will have more that are less expensive, maybe at a smaller size.

Maja, While there are some unusual things that get called "limes," there are really only two that are commonly known by that name, so the choice is really between those two. 1. Key lime (Citrus aurantifolia), a.k.a. Mexican Lime, Indian Lime, West Indian Lime. This is the one that is about the size of an English walnut or even a bit smaller, has numerous seeds, is yellow when ripe, and which has the most sour juice of any citrus (or for that matter, of any known fruit), as well as a characteristic bitter aftertaste. Everything about the tree is small and compact -- small leaves, small flowers, small fruit, small (but evil) thorns, and the smallest mature tree size of all the true citrus. If you like the "real" Key Lime Pie flavor or your margaritas with a real bite, this is it. 2. 'Tahiti' (a.k.a. Persian, 'Bearss') limes, Citrus latifolia (or better, Citrus x 'Tahiti', since it is definitely a hybrid, not a species in its own right). This is the one that is shaped rather like a lemon and is nearly as large as a lemon, always sold bright green (fully mature ones do turn yellow, but the flavor changes at that point). Much larger trees, less thorny (so easier to pick), almost totally seedless, and quite sour but NOT with the bitter aftertaste. Most commercial "lime" flavored products are made with this lime. Trees are average size for citrus, much larger than Key lime trees (assuming the same root system). Both should be quite successful for you in S. Florida.

Hi Can't help you much with your problem since I live in Florida but was curious if anyone knows a way to extend the life of the logs?? I grow a lot of epiphytes and they look so much better on a limb ,Have tried many species but they all rot rather quickly and a live tree quickly outgrows the location. Thought of making my own out of PVC pipe and covering with cork bark.Anyone try this??? Thanks gary

I have Eureka, Ponderosa, Meyer and three seed grown lisbons. If you want the tangier more acid flavor then by all means go with Eureka or Lisbon. Eureka does better in cooler climates and Lisbon in warmer climates. Ponderosa as mentioned is a hybrid but still has very good lemon flavor but like it parent the citron is more pulp and peel than juice. Meyer is great for lemonade and lemon pie but don't be fulled by it's higher sugar content. You will still have to add sugar when cooking with this variety. Keep in mind that Meyer usually doesn't store as long as true lemons and it has been my experience that the flavor is better when used fresh. The quality of fruit may be impacted by the rootstock it is grown on. Sour orange and trifoliate orange for colder climates are usually the industry standard and have varying degrees of disease tolerance. Enjoy your lemons!!!
