The frangiepani should move very easily, even without cutting off all the limbs. I don't know where you are, as my computer is doing a trick this morning and won't let me pull your page up, but everybody all over the world is having a season change right about now. This would be the time to move it, I would think. Are you moving into winter (ideal) or into spring (o.k., too)? As for cuttings, I don't know about taking huge cuttings. One inch would be good, I have seen/done bigger, but they don't seem to take off any faster after rooting. Somebody else is going to be able to help you more with this, but I wouldn't rush to cut this tree down to a stump. IMHO, Janie

Leona, Yup. All from cuttings from various places. The bright red one came from the Riverfront Market in New Orleans. It's my visual reminder of that wonderful city. I have several others from cuttings that have not bloomed yet. For me they can take about two or three growing seasons to bloom, depending on the maturity of the cutting. They can be a challenge up here in the 'north'. Once they start growing, they like a lot of root room to do their best and very well-draining soil -- and lots of water during the growing season. I have to water almost every day! Winter's another story. Almost bone dry the way I store mine.

In its first year in the ground, the Frangipani branch still has the programing from the parent tree in its cells and has already prepared for a new seasons flowering. If you let this happen it will pull energy and nutrients for flowering out of the reserves from within the cutting, as it has not got sufficient roots. This will weaken and delay its ability too develop a selfsufficient root system. This could explain no flowers in the second season that happened with Amelie above. Developing sufficient roots can take at least a season or two, but after that you will have an excellent plant. Grub, it may flower first season, but if it was me I would knock off any flower buds as early as possible in its first year. Feed with Seasol or any other root stimulant to encourage root development. That way you will get a much better plant in a few short years. It is a bit like us when we have go down with the dreaded lurgy. We need a bit of time and feeding up to get our energy back, so we can push that wheelbarrow.

'cos I actually work in the Valley and I start work this Saturday at 3pm. I could meet you somewhere and just hand them over. As for Broms, I love the different varieties of Queens Tears you can get. Haven't a clue what the real name is, I'm afraid. PS another one that I'm about to cut back is Singapore White. It's the one that doesn't lose its leaves (or not as much!) and is a dead white with small yellow centre.
