I was out Watering the Garden this Morning...

Of course it started to rain it did the same thing last week on our alloted day,

But not enough to get under the mulch, I hurried for cover under you know THAT tree

And much to my surprise I found my first Agapanthus for the season opening its pretty white flowers.

And climbing the tree beside it is the first flower of the Stephanotis Floribunda at last after three years.

Hearing all this chirping I look up to see if I could see those two little chickies.

Imagine my surprise when I seen three moving around, I was stunned talk about stacks on the mill

I might add the the nest is almost Vertical now and I felt sorry for the one down the bottom.

Smelt the first Gardenia belonging to my lovely neighbour by the fence too close for me.

So I moved over to my favourite garden bed to find more different day lillies out.

And my poor Rose it is not having a good Season at all this is its third bud, now ruined by the rain.

But the good news for the day is those three little chickies have flown the nest.

Now I hear them chirping all day, this is a beautiful season for the birds, dont you think...Cheers...MM.

Once again lovely photos, you sure have a colourful array of flowers. Nice to hear about the birds.
There's 2 white faced heron chicks in a nest in my front yard, they are growing fast and I'm hoping to get a chance to see them learning to fly, but knowing my luck they will fly the nest, when I'm working.

Lovely photos and what nice surprises for you.
Our minah chick or chicks have flown and leopard tree is doing a major leaf-shed, the tiny nest was either blown out or discarded and I found it on the ground. quite neatly woven and beautifully and softly lined with stuff that looks a bit like aquarium filter "wool" Much better than the doves, which place 3 twigs on some precarious bit of the pergola spans and "hope for the best"

Glad you didn't get bit! I had to untangle a few black snakes from the deer netting I put up on my roses outside. One time I found a bigger one and it was stuck. I grabbed his (or her) head and was using my pocket knife to cut the plastic netting off the snake. I had to be careful because it had gotten wound pretty tight in the netting. I was just about done when the meter reader guy came up in his truck. I was distracted and the snake was able to move his (or her) jaw sideways and got me with one fang. I kept talking to the meter reader and just pulled him (or her) off my hand. I didn't even flinch, ha ha! They guy didn't even know that I had gotten bit. I felt a bit weird for the rest of the day but lucky for me black snakes here aren't poisonous. They will also hiss and strike if they are tangled in netting. Last time I 'caught' a snake in deer netting I had to use my rose gloves because I was pregnant at the time and didn't want to risk anything.

As the jewel painted sky slowly slides under the cloak of night my mind drifts into another world where the sounds that are muted during the light of day suddenly burst into a crescendo of music and the fragrances of the day that have been overwhelmed by all the heat and frenzy of the sun sweep across my heightened senses teasing and flirting as they tempt me to put a name to their heady aromas. I sit under the stars and watch as they slowly waken and paint the sky into the most gorgeous map of the world. A map that can direct any person regardless of their location. I watch as the lights wink from airplanes circling overhead and the occasional shooting star that blazes across the dark night palette. Slowly my body unwinds and relaxes as the sounds of night birds caress the darkness with their sweet haunting sounds as one by one the lights in the homes dim and the houses blend into the blackness that speaks such color. Scents taunt the ragged nerves of my soul and massage them into pleasing chords of bliss. Fireflies illuminate the dark as if thousands of small candles flicker their lights around the area. Occasionally the bark of a seal brings me back into reality but then as the soft warm summer breeze teases the hair surrounding my face and sweet sweet nectar fills my nose with heady fragrance I let go and drift once again into a land of mystery and delight. The clock strikes midnight and I slowly stroll around the garden for a lingering goodnight to my babies and then crawl into a freshly laundered and cool bed only to awaken around 3 am for another quiet time in the garden. I amble around the streets that are not quiet as they are alive with the nightlife that awakens as the sun disappears. It is another night spent communing with the other world of shifting senses and I greet the new day as lights once again come on one by one in the slumbering houses and the rosy fingers of dawn begin decorating the sky with jewels of light. Flowers awaken and turn their faces upward to greet the morning and once again the nightly beauty and life of each garden fades into the heat of a new day and the morning crew takes over. It is at this point that I thank God for allowing me to witness both worlds and for all the intricate work he put into the beauty of a single flower and leaf. i would not mess around with warm water ... its a plant.. not a baby ... you should provide enough water... to moisten at least a one square foot area .. you need enough water around... to encourage the roots to extend out and away from the plant ... and once you get a large area moistened ... i would mulch to keep it that way ... a location might help .... i am baffled... up here in MI .. by the couple recent posts about peeps planting annuals in late fall.. almost winter ... so i am interested to learn how this all works ... but usually... it is said.. every plant has its season.. planting season ... and with annuals.. that is usually spring.. when the soil warms to germination temps ... so.. if you end up having problems ... DONT GIVE UP ... just resow in spring ... when the sun is in its ascendancy ... rather than in decline ... ken

Barbara I am eagley waiting to see the pics of your Heron chicks, thats something I have never seen before.

Yes it is amazing Alison what they make their nests out of the one we did running repairs to, was lined in a similar material you discribe its still up in the tree, this one looks so strange hanging down, all I am going to say is thank goodness the birds have flown as it would not have lasted much longer.

Michelle they amaze me too, tough little critters, guess they have to be.

Hi Heather I was given that plant in May 2003 and I was about ready to turf it out
So a wonderful surprise this morning and not before time.

You are so right Annie nothing nicer that a walk around the garden after the rain is there, yes everything does smell fresh.....Cheers..MM.

Flowers are obviously loving the rain. Glad to see your stephanotis flowering. We moved ours a couple of months ago as it was getting a bit big for its spot so I was surprised to find bud all over it the other day. I wasn't expecting flowers so soon after its move.

They have a beautiful perfume as do the gardenias, though the gardenias can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. We have a couple of radicans flowering at the moment and the smell in the evening reminds me of Christmas when I was a child as my mother had a huge gardenia near the lounge room window.

I'm glad the chicks are safe as the nest doesn't look like it would last much longer. It really is a good year for the birds. We have at least 2 plover chicks in the paddock and I was surprised when 4 baby magpies appeared. Two must be from another lot as 2 appeared a month or so ago and then a week ago another 2 turned up, doesn't appear to be any other parents. It makes it rather noisy now when they all try to sing at the same time outside the window though I love listening to them.

Lovely pics. as always MM, I know the excitement of the wild birds as we have English Blackbirds, they live around the yard all year & nest in our pergola they have raised 2 babies, now they are in the archway at back of the laundry, many people don't like them as they dig in the garden for worms & make a mess who cares it is easy fixed, the best thing is they are part of Thrush family so they have a beautiful song & during nesting time he sings all night it is beautiful
