I was out Watering the Garden this Morning...

Of course it started to rain it did the same thing last week on our alloted day,

But not enough to get under the mulch, I hurried for cover under you know THAT tree

And much to my surprise I found my first Agapanthus for the season opening its pretty white flowers.

And climbing the tree beside it is the first flower of the Stephanotis Floribunda at last after three years.

Hearing all this chirping I look up to see if I could see those two little chickies.

Imagine my surprise when I seen three moving around, I was stunned talk about stacks on the mill

I might add the the nest is almost Vertical now and I felt sorry for the one down the bottom.

Smelt the first Gardenia belonging to my lovely neighbour by the fence too close for me.

So I moved over to my favourite garden bed to find more different day lillies out.

And my poor Rose it is not having a good Season at all this is its third bud, now ruined by the rain.

But the good news for the day is those three little chickies have flown the nest.

Now I hear them chirping all day, this is a beautiful season for the birds, dont you think...Cheers...MM.

Once again lovely photos, you sure have a colourful array of flowers. Nice to hear about the birds.
There's 2 white faced heron chicks in a nest in my front yard, they are growing fast and I'm hoping to get a chance to see them learning to fly, but knowing my luck they will fly the nest, when I'm working.

Lovely photos and what nice surprises for you.
Our minah chick or chicks have flown and leopard tree is doing a major leaf-shed, the tiny nest was either blown out or discarded and I found it on the ground. quite neatly woven and beautifully and softly lined with stuff that looks a bit like aquarium filter "wool" Much better than the doves, which place 3 twigs on some precarious bit of the pergola spans and "hope for the best"

Thanks gardengal. ernie, that is a bird cement bird bathe with holes drilled in the bottom for drainage. The plant is some kind of perrenial ground cover that we planted several years ago. Sorry, I dont know its name.

That is a vine weevil, a very serious pest. The larvae love to eat roots. We normally don't have them in the north but you may have gotten them with plants. It is a problem in the Northwest. I had them a few times but they seem to not survive the winter if I clean up the leaf litter they are in. I had them on my Magnolia grandiflora one year and I clean up the leaves as they fall and never have had them again. They probably liked it because of summer leaf fall. They are mostly a problem with smaller plants like primula so maybe a brugmansia is vigorous enough to resist it. I would plan on taking big cuttings in the fall and leave the plantout to freeze. The only other place I have ever seen them is in cold frames. It is considered the worst pest for alpine plants such as Auriculas and Lewisia.

I've been wondering how you were doing. It's good to hear from you. Yes! Take it easy and do everything you are told! I know guys who didn't and have paid for it ever since. A bit of pain management advice: the first couple of times you go to physical therapy take half a pain pill (or a whole pill) and you'll get more out of the session. Trust me on this. Someone will have to drive you but it'll only be the first couple of times. After that you'll be much stronger and have more endurance. Glad to have you back! "Down Dunkie! Down!" Lori

i would not mess around with warm water ... its a plant.. not a baby ... you should provide enough water... to moisten at least a one square foot area .. you need enough water around... to encourage the roots to extend out and away from the plant ... and once you get a large area moistened ... i would mulch to keep it that way ... a location might help .... i am baffled... up here in MI .. by the couple recent posts about peeps planting annuals in late fall.. almost winter ... so i am interested to learn how this all works ... but usually... it is said.. every plant has its season.. planting season ... and with annuals.. that is usually spring.. when the soil warms to germination temps ... so.. if you end up having problems ... DONT GIVE UP ... just resow in spring ... when the sun is in its ascendancy ... rather than in decline ... ken

Barbara I am eagley waiting to see the pics of your Heron chicks, thats something I have never seen before.

Yes it is amazing Alison what they make their nests out of the one we did running repairs to, was lined in a similar material you discribe its still up in the tree, this one looks so strange hanging down, all I am going to say is thank goodness the birds have flown as it would not have lasted much longer.

Michelle they amaze me too, tough little critters, guess they have to be.

So a wonderful surprise this morning and not before time.

Flowers are obviously loving the rain. Glad to see your stephanotis flowering. We moved ours a couple of months ago as it was getting a bit big for its spot so I was surprised to find bud all over it the other day. I wasn't expecting flowers so soon after its move.

They have a beautiful perfume as do the gardenias, though the gardenias can be a bit overwhelming sometimes. We have a couple of radicans flowering at the moment and the smell in the evening reminds me of Christmas when I was a child as my mother had a huge gardenia near the lounge room window.

I'm glad the chicks are safe as the nest doesn't look like it would last much longer. It really is a good year for the birds. We have at least 2 plover chicks in the paddock and I was surprised when 4 baby magpies appeared. Two must be from another lot as 2 appeared a month or so ago and then a week ago another 2 turned up, doesn't appear to be any other parents. It makes it rather noisy now when they all try to sing at the same time outside the window though I love listening to them.

Lovely pics. as always MM, I know the excitement of the wild birds as we have English Blackbirds, they live around the yard all year & nest in our pergola they have raised 2 babies, now they are in the archway at back of the laundry, many people don't like them as they dig in the garden for worms & make a mess who cares it is easy fixed, the best thing is they are part of Thrush family so they have a beautiful song & during nesting time he sings all night it is beautiful
