Fresh from the Garden this Morning.

There are so many plants flowering at present it does not take long to fill a vase.

Only problem is to have a good assortment I have to put in ones with short stems.

So they sit better in this block of Oasis popped into a take-away food container.

Thursdays Flowers:

At long last I think the perfect bloom for me, that has not been chewed by insects.

Julia's Rose:

This is one of my favourites always flowering got powdery mildew at present, organic spray did not work.

Seduction:

The First flower of this Frangipani opened today.

I wonder what flower will open tomorrow I hope it is the Pink or White/Yellow Frangipani I look

Great flowers in the vase MM
Pics look really good.
I have thought of plumbago for the garden as a biggish bush for cover and colour.
What do you think?

Michelle I think it is a good idea one thing about Plumbago you can have it as small or as big as you want it.
I hardly every water mine and it flowers on and off at different times of the year I have another four small clumps.
Then I have another clump that is about 3 mts wide and I let it get to around 2 mts in height.
Then Hubby says "Do you want me to prune it, I eagerly say YES as I usually come in covered
in the dead seed pods, he does a wonderful job but he is starting to make them too round
And I am not a formal type of garden person I prefer the Plumbago spraying all over the place...MM.

I had a similar experience with broccoli here. I think they're called cabbage moth larvae, and eventually turn into a white butterfly (I think). We grew all this beautiful broccoli growing here the first year we moved to Northern California. A friend warned me that you have to put Bt out for the caterpillars, but I hate spraying anything, and didn't do it. Anyway, I picked some, anticipating some delicious fresh broccoli, put it in the steamer, and when I though it was about ready, I looked in and it was COMPLETELY covered in cooked little green caterpillars. Aside from being a bit grossed out, I was mortified because I had offered to take some to a friend's place to cook for dinner, imagine if I had! LOL I think we can grow it here in the winter when the little moths/butterflies are not out laying eggs on every cole crop in sight or ever invented. --Ron

Picked fresh for Thanksgiving dinner

It's been down around 10ÂºF at night, so I was a bit apprehensive that my plan wouldn't work. But..... pulled half a dozen golden beets, scrubbed and peeled them, you could see a discoloration where they'd frozen, but they were still alive and in good shape. Diced and microwaved for 10 minutes, they were perfect, just plain like that. Pulled half dozen large leeks, cleaned and chopped them into 2" lengths, blanched, then baked with an apple juice / mustard sauce. Ok, but next time, just baking with butter and salt. And we also opened up jars of pickled cucumbers, green beans, and okra, and baked a couple of our winter squash, and had jellies and jams as well. We've been trying to do as much home grown stuff as possible for Thanksgiving - it makes it fun, even it it isn't turkey and stuffing......

A beautiful display of flowers and the roses are gorgeous.

Plumbago is a very pretty bush but we are getting rid of ours as it is sending up suckers over a metre away from the plant and smothering other plants. As it is on a rough bank it is very hard to keep it under control and even harder to dig out. We have been spraying it with glyphosate for nearly a year but are still having plants coming up. If I plant it again it would be in an easier to access spot.

All your pics. are just lovely MM. your Julia's rose is great, I love seeing the Frangipanni as I can't have it here, I am like you I llove my garden free flowing not formal, well done

Hi and Thanks everyone.
GH I dont have any trouble with the plumbago suckers probably due to the bad soil, that plant up top has taken four years to get to that size around 1.2mts wide X 90cms H.The big clump if I see it suckering I just go around the edge and pull them out, that keep them in check for at least one year.

Jan the Julia's rose is prone to every insect here and disease , also much too tall for a Standard it would have to be a metre or more higher than the graft and still reaching for the sky and I chop it down short after each flowering.
