Winter Flowers.

Because of the warmer climate I live in lots of my bulbs flower in the Winter.

I hope this size is not too big this is the size I upload to the Photography and Art sites I am on.

I don't have the time anymore to resize every photo for putting on here

If you do have problems downloading them do let me know and I will try to find the time to reduce them. Mary-Anne.

Thanks Tricia, due to the cooler Spring lots of them are still flowering
I am truly amazed as they are usually finished by the first week in September.

bostedo, last winter was a very good test to its hardiness but I have had it here about 4 or 5 years now. I've transplanted starts of it in a lot of places and discovered it does well in heavy dry soil with trees roots that suck the ground dry, sandy soil, and areas that get morning sun only, it takes a surprising amount of shade well. I love the smell--crayolas--it smells just like a new box of crayons and reminds me of grade school. The roots are real tough, thin and about 8" deep. You can just pull up a rooted section and transplant it pretty easily. Here it is, the blue ground cover mid left in the photo in early spring after last winter which got colder than usual. It looks great all summer and most of winter. If it will grow in OKC, it'll be a piece of cake in Dallas.

most of my plants are perennials so i add in winter annuals where i can since my perennials go dormant typically. I grow pansies, snapdragons, borage, calendula, breadseed poppy, and sweet allysum as winter annuals. Though, the borage and poppies don't actually start blooming until February for me (i start first day of November). hummingbirds love the borage. these grow through the january freezes. there's also this native plant that self seeds i think its Agalinis something, looks like mini pale purple snapdragon.

All the flowers are a bit confused at the moment - and the gardeners, too - what weather!!!

Thanks Alison Yes what weather is right all my Hippeastrums are laying on the ground plus two of my tall Standard bougainvilleas.
All the block is under water so the seedlings I planted last week are probably dead.
Lots of the daylilies had buds as did the poppies I think they have gone now I will look later.

But I am not complaining the rain is good for the garden the dams are overflowing and I did get a lot of photos in the past few weeks.

Your pictures are always so vibrant,I really like the colours.
we've been promised very wintry conditions for the next few days-so it will be a quiet time here hoping the roses will stand up

Thanks Chas.. We have has wintry conditions here for the past four weeks and so much rain 18ÃÂ°- 21ÃÂ° instead of 28ÃÂ°- 30ÃÂ°
Though it has warmed up a little in the past two days since the rain stopped they say heaps more this afternoon though.
I am putting the roses photos on the Roses Forum now as its getting slow there again.
