Bougainvillea Flowering For Spring..

Lots of Bougainvillea flowering at present.

Californian Gold a Standard:

Jamician Orange:

Mrs Butt:

Zuki in a pot a Bambino boug:

The Pink is Rosenka grown from a cutting the darker one at the back was a cutting also.

Magenta:

And my Favourite White Cascade flowered all Winter.

Next to the Single Red Poinsettia.

There are a few more, they are just starting to colour up.

Lovely.
I love boggies. Used to have some years ago, hanging in a sunny window. Never had any success with cuttings though.
Saw a Jamaican gold beauty yesterday at a garden nursery. Much too big a tree for my little apartment.
The foto of Mrs Butt, seems very familiar, have you ever posted one like it before?

Glad you like them Inga the flowers are so bright colourful.
I only have nineteen now as I lost two to the frost last winter.

I cannot remember when I posted this last as I have not posted much the past two years..
I spend all my spare time on another gardening Forum and a Art site these days..

Bougainvilleas LOVE the sun! They tend to drop their blooms in shady areas and when they don't get enough water or too much water. Full sun and plenty of regular water. NEVER let your bougainvilleas dry out between watering. Don't drown them either. In other words keep the soil damp- not dry and not soaking wet. Consider the climate you live in...is it humid or is it an arid desert? In the arid Arizona desert you will need a watering system in place where they get water every day or you will need to water them by hand and keep checking the soil to make sure it's damp (my bougainvilleas are in large pots and drain well, so for me, I water them every other day in the warm months and every day in the scorching summer). Trim them periodically to keep their shape. Be patient and your bougainvilleas will reward you! I also prune mine twice a year and they come back abundant and gorgeous again. I like mine a certain size and shape. It's also important to give them proper fertilizer/plant food. Some plants like bougainvilleas are acid loving plants and others are not. You need to feed them the right amount of fertilizer periodically that is specific for acid loving plants. You can always get free advice from your local plant nursery on the right care for your specific plants.

the one thing that keeps coming to my mind.. is how flowers.. as they fade.. change colors .. i surely have no experience with this zone plant.. but could a purple bract fade to orange.. over the bracts long life.. i seem to think these bracts do not fade as fast as other perennial/annual flower ... [thinking poinsettia here .. those bracts last forever ...] ken

I totally agree with the comments of the above posters. I know it goes contrary to commowisents, BUT, it's completely true these plants need and respond best to some tough love. Mine, do basically nothing but grow foliage in the summer when my plants are outside and everything gets hosed down or rained on every day. Then comes the winter and I bring them to work. They get searing morning sun through the floor to ceiling windows and I usually forget to ever water them. They are in full bloom in January when coworkers drop in to inquire what kind of plant it is. They love full sun, heat and occasional, severe drought to trigger blooming. Also, do NOT fertilize. If you tend to like to pamper your plants, this is not the plant for you.

Is it in a pot indoors? Is it of the vine variety, like mine? Are you in the east coast? WOW, if its indoors and u don't plan to water it at all until April or May? I think your asking for trouble, especially if its in a pot.

The Bougainvlllae is a lovely plant and your pictures are lovely.Named after the french navigator and soldier de bouganville who circumnavigavated the world with his mistress disguised as a botanist.The island of
Bouganville where many Australian soldiers died,is also named after him.My reason for this preamble is that I wonder if Bouganville- who fought in Canada against the English- took the plant to Canada,where Inga has seen it.

Yes its a great plant Chas I don't water it *Only the two in pots* I don't fed it, the only thing I do these days is prune it..

Seeing Bougainvillea is a Native to South America Brazil actually, maybe someone took some cuttings from there, or bought a plant from there..

Like Plumeria, Frangipani to us that comes from South America also, Mexico and Venezuela its native too yet plenty of it grow all over the world.
The cuttings most likely came out by ships, these days by air..
