Thanks people, so about 10 to 14 days, I am so excited, I kinda hoped for that new's but then didn't like to ask, in case of disappointment, and Dave, I am normally the most patient person you could meet, but after last year, I am willing to admit I was impatient, I am so patient I drive friends mad! even as a child, I will not open presents until the DAY! more fun that way the anticipation, but I with these boys, hadn't a clue, Dad and Pops only did purple sprouting broccoli, and my Dad called what farmerdilla showed brilliantly calibrese, and that is exactly what I asked about, so thanks for the Photo, great info as always, your, clueless of CT :-)

I agree with Donnabaskets.. have always had great results with Premium Crop. It has been my go-to performer. Others which I've tried with good results are Everest, Majestic Crown, and Packman. All of the preceding are hybrids. The only OP broccoli that has done well for me is Green Goliath. I don't usually plant cabbage; I prefer to use all avaible space for broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts. However, Flat Dutch would be what I would plant if planting cabbage. The list below might be helpful. It is not complete as Diplomat (a new cultivar I am trying this year) is not on the list... The sad news is that folks at the garden center in town are telling that they will not likely be able to get Premium Crop any longer. Diplomat is their trial replacement. Dana, If you read the third paragraph from the bottom, the third sentence in that paragraph states Many cultivars will continue producing bonus side shoots as long as a few leaves are left on the plant. This can extend the harvest period for a month or more. This directly answers your question "I want to know what to do now that I harvested my broccoli. Should I cut it back?" Broccoli is an annual plant, not a perennial. It does not come back for a second harvest the following year or any year after that. You have to plant more the following year from seeds or transplants. Does this answer your questions about broccoli? If you really want a good general guide, do a search at this forum for existing threads on favorite vegetable gardening books, then you'll always have the info on hand.

I planted my cabbage in HOS fashion. Then, after the seedlings had a chance to develop, I used a pair of scissors to remove the growth on the smallest ones. This keeps from disturbing the roots if you pull the weak seedlings. You only want one cabbage plant in each spot, especially if it's a heading cabbage. Beets would be the same. Lettuce, you can use the cut n come again method. Just take the scissors and cut off what you want to harvest, leaving an inch or two above the soil. It'll regrow and you can harvest more later.
