More Plants Flowering !! Hurrah !! its raining again

Isn't that fantastic everyone this is the second lot of rain we have had this week, we need it badly.

It has taken 2 1/4 years for this Bougainvillea to get this height, my first attempt at a Weeping Standard.

A bicycle wheel on a tent pole, I didn't do that again the others got hardwood stakes, they are not doing as well.

If you could see our soil you could understand why, even these rampant growers, need lots of TLC on my block.

Lovely lot of pics you have there.
I envy you with your bougainvilleas.
I have been trying to grow some here but so far, no luck.
I have just shifted one (that had a few green shoots appearing)to a more sunnier spot. Now I am hoping that it settles in ok and grows.
That's a beautiful rose with the drops of rain on the petals, so delicate looking..
My roses are just starting to come into bud now so I can't wait for them to bloom.
New ones that I have planted this year are two Blue moon's climbing over each end an archway and planted underneath is a Burgandy Iceberg.

I can't believe what happened this afternoon, considering it's July! I had to turn off the front porch ceiling fans, because I was cold and figured my cats might be too! This rain has kept the actual temperatures in the low 70's which shouldn't be cold, but that fan made it feel cold. I changed from my shorts to jeans - incredible for this area! I haven't gotten any huge totals, just an inch one day, a half an inch the next, 9/10" the next day, on and on - the rivers and creeks haven't flooded - yet. The butterflies don't come out in this weather - the sun came out briefly this afternoon, and hordes of them showed up to nectar, like, finally! MissSherry

ScarletMX5, Make your car black and a convertable and that's my car! Love your little "Scarlet". Her's Perty! We have a cold front moving in sometime in the next two days and we are being promised some goodly amounts of rain. Yeah! Was 105 today with advisories to stay in out of the heat. The cats kept coming in and flopping down on the cool floor. I have begun moving my roses from their former home in the rose garden, over to the back of my house next to the patio. The soil is deeper and better there and it will be easier for me to keep them watered there, esp. in this drought, and who knows how long it will continue. I only hope my well does not run dry. Ugh. It will be nice to be able to just sit in the shade of the patio and watch them bloom. Hope I can get them all moved in time for the rain that is coming! I plan on going to go to Lowe's this week to see what they have in their clearence items. Oh, boy! Looking for columnar junipers, mini-boxwoods or yews, and evergreen trees and/or shrubs that can take these dry conditions, but I will keep my eyes open for roses and perennials on sale, too. Conditions are so bad here. I may lose the two ancient cedars out front, poor old dears. ~ SweetAnnie4u

I don't know how you would classify the throat/eyezone on Morning Mood. The green throat is large and radiating, merging with a whiter eyezone. Yes, Kay, Stone Beacon is very large, both plant and flower. That's one reason why it ended up in the hospital bed. it was taking too much space. It is a wonderful landscape plant.

Good Morning Bessie! I think of you and your poor waterlogged plants every time the sky is dark/stormy-looking to our west/northwest. What a change this is from all the drought and wildfires we all suffered through in 2005-2006! Our conditions are very much like yours--except I believe you are getting significantly heavier rainfall in your county than we are getting here most days. We had 1.5" of rain last night. (Sigh.) We have now had rain at our house every single day since Friday, June 15th, and it has varied from maybe 2/10s to 3/10s of an inch on the lighter rain days to 1.5" or more on the heavier days. Our mesonet station at Burneyville apparently flooded last week when Gainesville flooded and we are getting some goofy numbers from it, so I am not relying on its measurements for June 2007. I cannot believe the amount of rainfall you have had this year, and especially just the last few weeks! Our worst June since we've lived here was in 2004 and I think we had 13" or 14" of rain that month. Undoubtedly you have had much more than that this month. Every time that our local CBS affilliate, KXII, shows the radar on the weather portion of the news, it shows rain over in your area. With all the rain that you have had, I don't know how you have any tomato plants that are still alive, much less producing fruit. I wish I knew of a way to make your fruit ripen. My son suggested to me that you could pick some tomatoes green, put them in a brown paper bag with apples, and the ethelyne gas from the apples would 'cause them to turn red. I told him that while he was technically correct and that this would work, the end result would most likely be home-grown tomatoes that taste like grocery-store tomatoes, and what is the point of that? But, if you are truly desperate for ripe tomatoes you could try it. On Sunday I picked a lot of green tomatoes that had just the TINIEST hint of a little whitish-pink blush on them, and brought them in and set them on the counter to ripen. Most of them are already fully colored up and ready to eat. I was surprised at how quickly they turned once I brought them it. Of course, I would prefer to let them ripen on the vine, but that just isn't happening quickly enough for me. If you have some tomatoes that seem full-sized and about to ripen, but they still aren't blushing or ripening, you might try picking a few and bringing them in to ripen on the counter. If you do this, and they don't show some ripening within 6 or 7 days, you might want to go ahead and eat them as fried green tomatoes, or something. I have had some tomatoes ripen on the counter for up to 2 or 3 weeks before they turn really red, but usually they color up much faster than that. If the plants that appear to be dying are looking really bad and you feel that their death is imminent, you can pull them up by the roots and hang the entire plant upside down in a DRY location like a tornado shelter, garage, or under a porch overhang. The green tomatoes on those plants that are near their mature size will probably color up within 2 or 3 weeks. Sometimes I do this to salvage viable fruit off plants that are dying, and sometimes I do it in the fall to get the tomatoes before a frost does. It works with pepper plants too. We aren't having much sunshine here either, and I truly sympathize with you. I have 12 tomato plants in large containers sitting on a concrete slab outside the garage/barn. I was hoping that the heat/light reflected onto them from the concrete slab, the gravel driveway and the garage/barn walls would help them ripen fruit faster, but I don't really think it has helped much. Oh, if only we had some sunshine and heat! Our weather forecast for the next 10 days is very bleak indeed. Rain every day, with heavy rainfall on some days....that's our forecast through about Tuesday of next week. I miss summer! Dawn

Lovely pics. MM such a nice colour, we are having rain also but must admit to getting a lot over the last couple mths. things have really taken off in my garden, I am trying to upload to Photobucket but I think it must be having a bad day as it is still not opening for me

Hi Tricia and Margaret have you thought of growing one of the bambino, dwarf or compact bougainvillea
in a pot that way you could move it around to catch the sun. I envy you the daphnne, clematis and roses
and autumn leaves and especially Spring blossom. Your roses sound great Margaret, looking forward to seeing them and Tricia's also. Thanks Jan at least the grass is light green now not at good as yours though.

All too good to be true and so tidy. What is the edging plant. I have been considering mini agapanthus, especially as they can be bought so cheaply now.

Hi HJ That edgeing plant is Mondo Grass, it takes of here though, I have pulled thousands of plants out from the edge a few months back, if you want some let me know.

Thanks Barbara my garden tidy no way I have things everywhere , those cute everlasting daisy got spoilt over the weekend with the rain, shame as they were looking really nice....MM.

Fantastic as usual. Seeing your garden and photos really gives me the incentive to get out and garden.

Is that a NG Impatiens near the steps? I love them but never seem to have much luck in the ground. Can't seem to find the right spot. I bought another one last week which I might keep in a pot this time.

Hi GH. No they are just the normal Impatiens I bought that punnet about 4 years ago just after we finished building the house and before we started on the garden, I needed something to brighten my days except Gum trees, they are hanging baskets and I had to get hubby to take them down as those drying winds we had last week were drying them out too much. I must say the NG ones are so different I have not got any of them,

Hi TG, and Thanks.. No I wont let it weep down, when the canes start getting long I prune them short,
Then those short canes that are left burst into little flowers, I read somewhere years ago
That Bougainvillea flower better on new growth and its true providing you prune at the right time.

You have mentioned that the long grass that is a border is mondo grass.
I have a bit of that but its short and straggly-which variety did you get because you've got the effect I wanted!:))
