So Many Plants Flowering after a drop of Rain.

We had a small drop of rain only 7.5mm ( 3 inches ) , which ruined my roses.

The other plants enjoyed it though. A few more pics of what is flowering at present.

Daylily:

Hi MM, all delightful. Is portulaca and pig face the same? I think the white ones at the bottom may be pigface not portulaca.

No I dont think it is Pig Face dont you hate common names,
I bought a punnet of Portulaca Sun Jewels and this was in it.
I thought is may have been in the mesembryanthemum family, livingstone daisy. ice plant
Its so confusing common names, when I was a young tacker Pig Face was that succulent
with the bright pink flowers that grew in the sand on the Victorian beaches.
Do they call all those type of plants Pig Face now, someone will ID it right Thanks anyway HJ.

That is pretty typical of most Lamb's Ear. The one species I have not had problems with is 'Fuzzy Wuzzy'. I had to buy it just for the name's sake. My garden has seen some major downpours this Spring, none of which have caused the flowers to flop. At this point, go ahead and cut the flower stocks off. In the future you might consider staking them or you can forgo the flowers all together by planting 'Silver Carpet', a variety that does not flower. Heather

I have a type of phlox and it is tough. Id say chances are they will survive in case of too much water or no water. In regards to your question, and again, not knowing where you live, I will speak about Houston where I live. We had the wettest April in recorded history and water came to within inches of my front door. We'd had no rain in March so the water was absorbed quickly. However, in the last week of the rainy spell, ground was saturated. I was trying to plant a shrub and when I shoveled, water seeped into the hole. I happens in cases of EXTREME rainfall but I would not say it happens every time it rains heavily. More like when it rained and rained and rained and water finally had nowhere to go fast. Cant speak about bee balm as I don't grow it.

Haha! I guess you could see that I like to grow lots of flowers having all kinds of colors rather than planned color schemes and understated elegance. :) The advantage of having a container garden is one can keep switching their layout at the slightest whim. Also, it is really helpful in being able to prioritize and ration the limited amount of sun. I like the vinca minor and have some though it really doesn't bloom long enough. I grew up where vinca is truly a weed, growing anywhere it could find a toe hold, cracks in concrete building walls or pavements, somewhat like the much hate dandelion (which I find pretty). It appears not need much of anything to grow huge and bloom without much soil.... Now that you mention, I didn't take into account the biennial nature of hollyhocks. That's a neat trick to try and fool the poor plants. I think I will give it a try.

Nancy - Silver Sword has multiplied very slowly here, but I think that has more to do with where it's planted than the plant itself. How odd that you've lost it twice. It's never been the registered height here. Until this year it was only 26-27 inches tall. Scapes this time are 30-32. Kate - The green cast on the Inimitable seedling must just be the way your monitor interprets my photo. In real life, I don't notice a green cast. The seedling is very pretty though if one likes pastels. I always feel very happy and serene when I see its blooms. Kay - Leonard grows and multiplies very well. Like most everything else, it has a lot less buds than in the two previoius years. Thanks for the shoutout on the Busby seedling. It's an attention getter because of the bright color. Sherry - I'm glad you like Int. Log. X Sugar Mag. I measured the blooms today, and they are just a smidge less than 8 inches. The lavender purple color is really nice too. Debra

No I think pig face is mesembryanthemum. I love portulaca always think it is like a tiny rose. Love those stamens on your hibiscus. Hope you don't get washed out like last time it rained up there

Yes it is starting to look a little better Marion especially now it has green grass.
Jan I am pretty sure I sent you one of those I called it Red with yellow centre, let me know.
Thanks Tricia those two have especially long stamens, the garden is getting gentle soaking rain this time.

I was also answering a lot in the other forums no way would I want that much overnight.
And most of those pics I took with the small camera I cannot hold the big one with this shoulder.
