Could be Camp David Tina. My one is jet black as a small bud and when it opens it is red.
Only trouble it bloomed when we had those 36 deg hot windy days so it was here one day gone the next.
So I never got to see a really good bloom well just one, but it was more open.
A beautiful rose yours is...Cheers..MM.

Kuzariprincess - I just LOVE L.D. Braithwaite. What sumptuous roses!! Divine!! My 4 year old plant is about 2 feet X 2 feet and will grow taller. There are lots of buds on it! Souvenir de la Malmaison overwintered in your garden? Great!! I bought it this year. Really weird that it survived and your Morden didn't! Shazam - 50 buds!!! Wow!! I bought Bonica my first year growing roses and it died overwinter. I'm reluctant to try it again. Although it SHOULD survive winter here. Maybe I just didn't know what I was doing that first year. Janet - I wish we were at the "just enjoy it stage." We still have SOOOO much work to do. Oh well, it's fun! Well - BLANC DOUBLE de COUBERT won my first rose race!!!! Followed the next day by J.P. Connell!!! They both have around 50 buds each. Roses rule!! Carol

These are great ideas however I'm really looking for a way that would be appealing to the eye as she is located near our lounge area. Looks like I will just have to wait it out and see what happens when she blooms again. If necessary I will move her to a different spot. My veggie garden in starting to take off a bit so maybe the bunny will chew on some lettuce instead lol... Also, a little off topic but while doing a little research I read that planting marigold plant near a rose will protect aphids and other pests from attacking the roses because the will naturally head for the marigold over a rose... will have to try that out.

Ohhh sorry lol that was dumb answer. I assumed the post meant flower buds and missed the zone factor. My leaf buds gets zapped almost every year since our temps fluctuate so much during late winter. I do not worry about leafbuds or new foliage ever, the plant will make new ones when the temps are right again. If you do happen to get down to the mid to low te ties after having flower buds I would recommend protecting if posible to just removing them and letting the plant make new ones (if not dealing with a once bloomer). We were in the low 20s for a 3 days and many of my buds looked ok only to open as ugly malformed blooms.

Never be in a hurry to do spring pruning if you are in a cold zone, 6 or lower, and have frequent late spring frosts, many of which are mild and of no consequences, but some are severe and will kill any new leafed out growth. Apical dominance causes the surviving buds at the highest point on a cane to sprout forth while the lowest down buds are essentially dormant. Cut away the upper parts of the canes as is normally done at spring pruning, and lower, dormant buds are woken up and begin to leaf out. Time your pruning so that the remaining buds on the bush are woken into growing when ALL danger of late frost is pretty much past. Early to mid- April in zone 6 is a good time to prune. Moses

Doesn't look like my Camp David ... the petals are not rounded enough. How about Oklahoma or Mr Lincoln? Does it pack a great perfume?

Did you buy it recently? Could be Black Magic or Ingrid Bergman.

If it has been in the garden for 15 years or more - might be Kentucky Derby.

Actually Steve it has been in the garden for about 17 years so I would say you would be spot on!!
