I have no idea of the name of this rose, maybe someone can enlighten me?? I love the way the bud is almost black then opens to a deep red....Tina

Could be Camp David Tina. My one is jet black as a small bud and when it opens it is red.
Only trouble it bloomed when we had those 36 deg hot windy days so it was here one day gone the next.
So I never got to see a really good bloom well just one, but it was more open.
A beautiful rose yours is...Cheers..MM.

Here are pics of my Safrano and its next door neighbor Madame Joseph Schwartz (white blooms - pink blooms on same plant are Duchesse de Brant - it "back sported!"). Usually both (all three) of these roses start blooming in Jan/Feb here, but we had nothing but deluging rain (cold storms) all of Jan and Feb and March, so they are bursting out now: Safrano Madame Joseph Schwartz & sporting back to Duchesse de Brabant Lots of other flowers are bursting out too - here is the "neighborhood" of where S and DdB and MJS are living (they are in the background): It is as if the garden is trying to catch up after having to wait the storms out. Ohhh sorry lol that was dumb answer. I assumed the post meant flower buds and missed the zone factor. My leaf buds gets zapped almost every year since our temps fluctuate so much during late winter. I do not worry about leafbuds or new foliage ever, the plant will make new ones when the temps are right again. If you do happen to get down to the mid to low te ties after having flower buds I would recommend protecting if posible to just removing them and letting the plant make new ones (if not dealing with a once bloomer). We were in the low 20s for a 3 days and many of my buds looked ok only to open as ugly malformed blooms.

Doesn't look like my Camp David ... the petals are not rounded enough. How about Oklahoma or Mr Lincoln? Does it pack a great perfume?

It does have a perfume but, not in my opinion a great one...but that maybe just me of course...Tina

Did you buy it recently? Could be Black Magic or Ingrid Bergman.

If it has been in the garden for 15 years or more - might be Kentucky Derby.

Actually Steve it has been in the garden for about 17 years so I would say you would be spot on!!
