Yes, you can do it. In another tank that I had, there was one male beta with all the community fishies. In the back of the tank, where the filter is, there is the opening at the top to make room for the filter, you can insert one or several lucky bambos into the tank, but be sure its to the side of the filter water flow. As for having the lucky bambos in a vase with a beta, that is possible as well. Get a plastic cup (clear) and cut down to size. Cut a circle hole in the middle and insert several lucky bambos and adjust them. Place it on top of the vase and ta da! Yes, the beta will do great with it. The plastic cup holds the lucky bambos and prevent the beta from jumping out. However, be sure to have enough space for air at the top of the water. Do not listen to Ianna. I've done these before, as well with Ivy houseplants.

Hi Ms Minnamouse, I am going to assume the bird is big, not real little. You are going to need at least a 2 inch culm size. Here are some suggestions: Phyllostachys congesta-thick culms, 2.5 inches, full to half sun, good for wet areas if necessary. Phyllostachys angusta- stone bamboo-yellow green with very hard wood, used for furniture. Culm diameter 1.5 inches. Full to half sun. Phyllostachys bissetii- green,culm dia. 1.5 inches. Full to half sun. There are other bamboos also, I can't really make a list that long. If you can dig in the ground, the ground isn't frozen, you can plant bamboo. The ground is frozen where I live now, but that is the general guideline. Bamboo isn't easy to just pull out of the ground. That is why people get upset when they spread. You can grow your own, just dig a trench around where you want to keep it and each spring and fall use a hatchet or very sharp spade to cut off the rhizone pieces that are growing into the trench. You can put light mulch in the trench or sand and mulch so you will easily be able to see it spreading. Search this forum and put the word containment in. Many people contain bamboo this way. Buy your own bamboo and try it. You will probably fall in love with it, it is fascinating to watch grow. Birds adore bamboo. They nest in it, eat it, play with it, so your bird will love it also. I am a fabricator. I sell remnants all the time. Cost per sq. ft. is typically about $15 - 20 less than slab material. It's a good deal for the customer and a good deal for me. An 8' two sink vanity from remnant will be several hundred dollars less than the same part from purchased material. The one watch-out for someone selecting from remnants is to look over the piece VERY closely. Sometimes the reason a piece is a remnant is due to a structural flaw or objectionable inclusion. Often when making a vanity you can cut the piece such that an ugly inclusion ends up in the sink cutout. In general a remnant represents the least desirable portion of the parent slab.
