Kippy, somehow I missed "Lark." I'll look again next time. I love "Tranquillity" in the catalogue. A white rose is not impossible in that spot; that's why I liked Francis Meilland. LEH sounds and looks great, but I need big and/or tall. CPM is perhaps a better bet, but again, it sure looked pale and faded out there. Nik, my spot for this rose is against a light-colored wall where she will get all-day sun. So Pat A. is out. All the comments on the regular Roses forum were negative for her in this climate, although the photos (thank you, msjam2!) were magnificent. Right now I have to forget about roses and everything else for 24-36 hours and just concentrate on chicken soup, matzo balls, and cleaning the house before twelve guests arrive tomorrow night ... I don't think crushed babies would work Suzy. Too fatty. Susan, she has been in that pot for 6 years, nearly 7 now. She reaches to the roof of a one storey building. I give it 9 month osmocote every spring. That is a controlled release general fertilizer. Then, when I remember, I give it a watering can full of dilute donkey manure liquid. That is all until just recently, when I gave it a handful of high potash, plus trace elements fertilizer. I took those photos in May this year. She flowers well all through the summer, as long as she has got her sunshade. Daisy

I don't have a Pat Austin, but it sure is pretty! The oranges I do have here in the Tampa Bay area of Florida are Easy Does It, Chihuly, and Hot Cocoa. Easy Does It is my newest one and seems to be the best at blackspot resistance. It has a medium light scent and is lovely, but not quite as pretty as Pat Austin. Chihuly is also very pretty and changes colors like a sunset, but is not as blackspot resistant and is unscented. Hot Cocoa is a rusty red orange and is slightly more bs resistant than Chihuly, but not as resistant as Easy Does It. It is very vigorous and replaces any foliage it loses to bs. I like all three.

ZZ it is hardy here. I had mine for 4 years. No winter protection and planted far away from the house. She's not cane hardy but had no problem coming back each year. I went thru my papers for you. My Pat Austin was own root from Heirloom Roses. She would have 4 to 6 slender canes that grew to maybe 4 feet. So they kind of leaned with the flower very close to the ground. She had full all day sun. All that said I'm not sure how I fertilized or if I even bothered with her after a while. Wish I had better news but at least you can rest assured she is hardy. I have quite a few new orange toned flowers from this year and last. We should keep all keep each other informed on how well our roses do. It beats the heck out of guessing. I've got some roses now that look as is they will be spectacular here. I for one will be sure to update on the best in my yard. I hope you guys have lots of good luck PAs.
