It looks a very pretty thing. I have a sole surviving plant - seed grown - of something I was told was a small shrub - Sophora dragons gold. But it hasn't flowered and does not seem to be thriving at all. Are the Kowhai a tall tree Heather?
Dragons Gold is so called as it comes from an Island 'Stephens" I think, where the native lizard Tuatara lives it looks like a dragon.
It usually flowers from a younger age and earlier in the winter. Can grow to 2 metres tall. the weather might be to hot and dry for it to do well try lots of mulch or leaf litter around it.
