I assume you're talking about pelargoniums? Species are more than likely to come true to type,but with the more common zonals you could end up with any colour (and some interesting shades at that). Well worth trying.

My apologies. Many geraniums will self-seed where they're happy and are usually (but not always) true to type. I've had success with G. maderense, G. incanum and G. sanguineum through self-sowing. If you're after info on a specific species, try googling "... seed" to see if you get any results. I understand Johnson's Blue, for one, is sterile. Hope this is helpful.
