Rita - I'm happy to be getting so many new scapes this time of year. I'm going to be having a few more ffo's soon. Wonder of Wonders, Delightful Design, Purple Corn Dancer, Annabelle's Blush, Indigo Bunting and Rock Candy will bloom for the first time here. When I came back from my trip, I noticed Freedom's Triumph had put up a rebloom scape. It's supposed to rain everyday this week, so more rebloom scapes should be coming along any day. Debra

Rob I do not use gritty mix for my Adeniums. I use what I call a chunky mix. It's made of half coir pieces and chips, half Growstone GS2 and large perlite sifted. I'm attaching some recent photos so you can see the size of the pieces. Indoors I use jumbo garden trays under my fabric pots. I buy mine at Greenhouse Megastore online. Tracy

Yes, Mary, there are blooms for him to feed from - indican azaleas are blooming all over, native azaleas are starting to do so, blueberries, service berries, and my butterfly bush (small tree?) 'Orange Septre' is full of blooms. I get excited, too, every year when new foliage and blooms are popping out. At this point, I'm almost tempted to go ahead and plant my porterweed and pentas, but I'll let my head rule and not do so, since it might yet get below 40 degrees. The sun is shining again today, and I'll be outside soon. In your part of Arkansas it might freeze, but this winter, unlike the last two or three, has been very mild, so I doubt it. My pipevines are making new growth, so, if this pipevine swallowtail finds a mate, there should be leaves to feed caterpillars. I'm jealous that you have Virginia bluebells - what a beautiful flower! I've only seen them in pictures, but I've always wished they'd grow here. I planted some once, never to see them again. Sherry

Jen, Grafted, bareroot grade #1 roses, and the equivalent size own root roses can go straight into the ground where you permanently want them. They're mature enough to adjust wonderfully. With gallon size own root, or any equivalent sized lower grade grafted/bare root, it's a judgement call. With excellent care they often take off growing fine. Liner size roses are very young, sometimes barely 4-6 months old. They are called liner size because of the pot size, usually 3-4" across, long (8"), black plastic pots they are grown in. Now liner size (they're always own root), benefit from being upsized to a two gallon size pot, and pot grown for their first year, winterized in a shed, cold garage, etc., where they will get no winter damage, and planted in ground the following year. I have put just purchased liner size roses directly into the ground their first year, but they need babying. Their first winter is particularly hard on them here even if they put on nice size by season's end. Even with heavy winter protection, and a mild winter, they often experience a good bit of winter die back for me. In your warmer zone than mine you may get away with planting liner size roses directly into the ground, but I usually regret I did so, and you may, too. Moses
