Thanks for the replies....it makes me a feel a little better....unfortunately I have to look at these ugly things all summer....right next to my walkway! Will the wrinkled look go away? none of my other plants appear this way it's possible there was a frost...i dont know if hers were up or not because they werent at my home! Not sure what the worm looks like you mentioned, but i did find a 1 cm long black with silver striped wormy looking thing on top of the soil during a slug hunt last night. i also found many ants on one leaf...

Well, Chas, the leaf looks like a caterpillar of some sort, but as for the bits of stick underneath, well, reminds me of what white cockatoos do to my African Tulip tree and other things around the place; they take a few bites and then just drop the rest and start on a new one - seed pod usually of the African Tulip tree. Bird damage? When do you find it Chas, early in the morning? what birds are about? any caterpillars? Looks like something is chewing the stems in half and then just dropping the bits to rot! Ummmm, suspect it's a nocturnal something or other. Dunno what else, what about going out at night with a torch, surprising what you can find in your garden at night mate!

Turned out it was something, we think the snail, leaving a organic film on the wire. If I scratch slightly, it comes off without damage to the rubber. Strange~
