Planto Thank you (good eyes!). That is actually just a 'garden debris', bits from the pine trees (there are needles in all my pots too). I should have take photo after. And the other one you circled in white is actually very small dent. I have found & tried to remove other 2 I am wondering about when inspecting for possible bugs (bringing them in from garden). No webs, luckily, so far didn't find any other bugs. These haws have been pupping like crazy, some of the pups actually split the older leaves (circled in photo below) - hopefully it's visible. And some more debris from the pine tree is visible on bottom left in this photo too. Rina

Update on beetles here....I took the suggestion someone made, to cut off all the open roses and wait for the beetles to move on. I only have about 6 rose bushes and all of them were about at the end of their 1st bloom cycle when the beetles showed up. I did pick off a couple of dozen beetles into soapy water and then removed about a dozen and a half blooms on the roses. Two had already finished blooming. They are all working on setting another round of buds and Julia Child was the farthest along with that. She has a tendency to bloom continuously. So yesterday and today some of her buds opened. I found one beetle on the flowers and that's it. So I think they have moved on. I'm not seeing them at least. Actually, I've had more problems from earwigs at night coming out and devouring some of my plantings. They stripped Lamium and even some creeping oregano and thyme, some Heuchera and I suspect are the culprits that made a mess of one of my Clematis. I just don't have the energy to go out there at night and collect them. I have done that in other seasons and it helped a lot.

I've just got to get some photos of this damage for you to see. The worst of the damage seems to be winding down rapidly. Your description is quite similar to the damage on my roses. Buds are either "drilled" out in the very center, or eaten out more extensively. The stamen area is completely destroyed. The discoloration ranges from blackish brown to light brown. Even the edges of the outer bud petals are affected with brown discoloration. The severely affected can still try to open and the bud is mostly destroyed on those. Less severely affected will open, but the center is missing. I have several Evelyn roses which have been affected for years. Others which are susceptible are Colette (severe), Caramel Antique, The Prince, Augusta Luise (severe), and Love Song. These are all many petaled roses with an antique look. The puzzling thing is that these roses grow right next to other roses that aren't damaged at all. I also have thrips damage on some roses that aren't "drilled", just have the brown edges on some petals. None of these look as bad as the above photos show. The drilled buds have different look entirely. I'll try to get some up soon. Maybe we can solve this thing together. Diane

Growing some kousa dogwood seedlings, and one of them seems under the weather a bit. Noticed some strange pattern of light/dark green on the leaves. The most recent maturing leaf growth is limp, too. Seems otherwise healthy as it's putting out new growth at the very top, but I'm worried about the leaves--never seen anything like it. Overwatering damage or pests, maybe?? Limp top leaves: More leaf damage: It's affecting about 3/4 of the plant's leaves. May be nothing serious, but wanted to see if anyone could peg exactly what it might be.
