This plant was a gift from a friend, who budded it as an experiment. It's perfect for me. ------- Yes. All of the Dalmatian lists and pages are discussing the hoarded Dals and Dal Crosses. Thank God for the Rescue community! The two in that photo above are Katie (front and center) who lost her sight earlier this year, to glaucoma (that's why her eyes look a little odd) -- and in the background, her older brother Becket. This is their middle sister, Tika.They are full siblings from different litters from a scumbag backyard breeder in Texas. All Long-Haired Dals. All dumped. All rescues. As I said -- Thank God for the Rescue community. This is all three of them, paying a Christmas visit to the local hospital. ---------- In my conditions, years back when we grew 'Eugene de Beauharnais' on its own roots, we did grow it in a container. It bloomed its heart out, but rusted badly. If it doesn't have that problem in your conditions, I'd go ahead and grow it own-root. As a "Pot-Pet" I think this would be a great, great rose for most folks. It's considered to be a China, but is probably one of those roses that's betwixt and between.

I so have to have this rose . . . . In my case, his small stature is a plus. He may well have disease problems where I am, also, but I am dying to try it. Last time I checked, Burling didn't have him available, but I should ask again. Otherwise, if there's anyone in/around SF or Bay Area who might be able to give me a cutting at any point, I would be very grateful, and might have something to share as well. (Jeri, you are the worst -- or best -- rose enabler! EDB and Elisabeth's RC and Jesse Hildreth are all on my "must have someday" list. I have GMH, Portland from Glendora, Benny Lopez, and FBPT, all largely because of you!)

portlandmysteryrose - AWW... what a nice thing to say. I chock it up to ghosts of my DH's ancestors - one of them actually planted the EdB in the picture I posted above, although I have 2 others that I rooted from it that don't get rust either. I just wanted to point out that EdB is not necessarily weak on its own roots - it just sounds as if the rootstock makes it easier for it to thrive in Jeri's condition. Kim - you are correct - we are theoretically in a horrible, awful, drought here this year, but we have gotten over 20 inches of rain since Oct 1 of 2021. Jackie

Yay! One of mine have just started blooming too - we finally have had 5 days of sun in a row, after weeks and weeks when it never came out at all (mostly raining). I think all of the plants in my garden have been ready to bloom but holding back because it was so dark and pouring rain. Now it is warm, and sunny, and they are all exploding. I just walked around to look at them, and of my 4 bushes of Eugene de Beauharnais, only one has blooms on it yet. The other three (all from rooted cuttings of the oldest one) have buds all over, but no blooms yet. Of course, the parent and very old plant (we think it was planted before the 1960s) has 4 big blooms, and lots of buds almost out. Here is a pic of the prettiest bloom on it - taken just now: Jackie
