'Sombreuil' has been a tough and reliable rose for me in coastal zone 6 for the last 8 years. Last winter it had no die back at all. It makes a rather stiff and thorny plant that is hard to train along a low fence. I have it on a 4' picket fence and it is just too low. In my zone it would be much better as a pillar or trellised against a wall. The flowers are very double and come is sprays that open over an extended period. It blooms several times throughout the summer and the constant new growth ensures that even if it drops some leaves there are always new ones on the way. I have this rose in a very prominent place as it is a favorite. 'Compte de Chamborde' is one of the most charming of the OGRs and deserves a place in any garden devoted to them. My fourteen year old own root plant is still small with thin wiry canes to a couple of feet, but it does acceptably well in a mixed border of iris, catmint, and daylilies and is at its most charming when surrounded by the tiny daisy like flowers of feverfew.

Double Delight - you will love it. The only negative is that it gets double centers if you overfertilize. Good repeat, about 4 feet here. Mine is an older plant, when younger, it was taller Just Joey - I love it but it is not reliably hardy here. I plant it again and again hoping to find the right sheltered spot! Love it but can't seem to keep it going. Fussy! Never grown one over 8 inches tall. Peace - a classic, good rose for me. About four feet for me. Repeat is ok, not as much as others in my garden. Medallion - I like it and it has been a good rose for me in my garden. Not my fave, though. 4 feet and a somewhat stingy bloomer here. Europeana - a nice rose, lots of bloom throughout the season. A shorter, low growing rose. Always in bloom. I haven't grown Pascali. Just not a big fan of white roses. I've bought the package roses at Menard's for years. To give them a good start, soak them for at least 24 hours. They will do better if you put them in pots to start, then transfer them to the garden when they have shown some good growth.

Thanks all. My house and yard are under renovation so it’s not pretty to look at. But NYC’s lockdown is finally lifted today so the workers are coming back. They will replace the chain link fence with wood fence this week, which was supposed to happen 2 months ago.. I can finally plant after they do that. So excited! Here are my first year roses in pots. The one blooming is Zephirine. Came potted from a local nursery. My yard, black canvas. I had trees cut down for the roses. The big trees in the neighbors‘ yards Are in the north and west so they don’t shade much. The 4 climbers will be planted along the eastern facing fence. New roof and roof deck under construction. The grey slope is the back of the parapet. I will put 3 climbers in a 18 feet long planter to be built along the foot of the parapet. I hope the climbers will cover the parapet in a couple of years. for the front MAC will go in a large container on the stoop. Quick Silver will be planted in ground along the short fence. I heard these two rebloom well so they get to go to the front. Just realized this picture cuts off my pocket sized front yard:) but hopefully you get the idea. I got 8 shrub roses too but they are easier to move than climbers so I am more nervous about the climbers‘ locations. A gardener from the neighborhood will help me with planning and planting everything but he doesn’t really know roses so appreciate you all’s help!
