I like one of the others advice - I would try puting your juniper on your window sill to get it used to the cold......and keep the foliage misted, and also don't let the pot/roots completely dry out. But my advice after that? After your juniper has been in the cool windowsill for 10 days or so, put it in your refridgerator until spring. The only problem with the fridge is that the air is very dry, stale, and recycled. You'd have to open the fridge door here and there every day to let fresh air in. Keep it misted with water - I did this a few winters ago, and had a store bought juniper bonsai from Home Depot (that someone gave me in November of 2003)....... and I ended up keeping the Juniper in my fridge til spring. I kept it misted it with fresh water so it wouldn't dry out. It did real well and survived. Good luck. David zone 5b NH

Winter squash is often harvested after first frost. Sometimes a light frost is needed to polish them up for harvesting. So if using the cover for season extension I'd think you can wait until just a few days before your frost date. Of course you'll have some green fruit that will never ripen but that's normal. Next year consider shorter DTM varieties or earlier planting under cover to get more fruit. Dave

Yes it makes sense to have damage in one zone. They blow out one zone at a time. If there is water left in the zone it could collect at a low spot. Generally they connect the compressor at the main water supply line (shut off of course). They then open one valve (electrically or manually) and blow air through the system until the water doesn't come out at the furtherest sprinkler. Repeat for each zone. If one zone isn't blown completely out and the water pools you could see damage from freezing. Are there elevation changes to the irrigation system? Was the damage in the low spot?

Even in zone 5, i would wait to start broccoli and cabbage. I start mine in April - you could maybe do it a month earlier.
