What a day. .but a good excuse for feeding addiction

Hi everyone

After stating about being addicted on Oz garden forum I decided I was going to be a very good girl. I had a little win on lotto last night. Just enough to buy some more roses at Mitre 10 (and two lovely oval shaped terracotta pots). The beauty of this was that it was also a fee ticket from golden casket. Well I headed down to Mitre 10 and found Lord Gold, Joyfullness, Ophelia, Pink peace and Tineke. I really wanted more though. When is enough ever enough? I then found out that the climbing roses I had lost were being replaced by garden express. What a day!!!

Don't know where I'll put them yet but I'm sure to find a place.

Have any of you had the above roses and how did they go? .They are apparently all hybrid teas. I found Garden magic quite a good site for finding some which weren't available on the other sites.

Incidentally it was a good excuse wasn't it????

How many is enough?Good question.
I have 65 now not including carpet roses and I would love 65 more:))
I have no more room having already started digging up the lawn!!!!
Yes I love the forum as well.Most enjoyable. In fact I have all the housework to do and meeting a friend for lunch and Im still sitting here at the computer on the forum:))
Of the roses you have mentioned above I have Peace...a truly wonderful rose.I havent had much luck with
it this year, thanks to an outbreak of BS.
It was so bad in Feb I had to prune it right back ,as you a winter prune.
It has come on beautifully but I think I will have to wait for next year for it to return to how it was.

Sounds like fun Jan I would love to buy more but its the watering
Though I did buy Renae last Sunday for under $7 and whats a bet it will do well
Not like some of those expensive ones I have bought I am going to grow it as a pillar
I am off now to dug the hole for the post. I hope you get lots of more luck like that

You got that right! A few successes and THEN add the enablers and watch out dl addiction! I was into roses when I lived in a climate where they were easy to grow. Now I still love them but have scaled way back to a few that will perform OK without pampering. I'm sticking mostly to hardy vintage & OGR this time around because I most love the quartered look & strong fragrance. I hate to grow anything that I have to pamper. Don't want to spray every few weeks or lift them out of the ground before frost or other such mucking around in order to keep them alive & looking decent. If I give them good soil, plenty of water, a little fertizer once in awhile- well I want blooms for my trouble. That's not too much to ask and daylilies don't really ask for any more. Iris too for that matter, though I wish they bloomed longer.

With an area as large as I have, I rake it very, very hard daily. That's taken nice, bright green triv and turned it into dying grasses (the bluegrass I actually planted doesn't seem to mind the abuse...and grows in where the other starts to die). It helps that we have had no rain this week. :-) The only grass that makes me happy when it looks "craptastic" (thanks to whoever coined that word) is Poa trivialis. And I spray with (NO NO NO) chemicals because I simply can't control this any other way (2,4-D slows it down and, after raking, doesn't allow it to re-establish very well). For teeny areas like you have I'd Weed Hound it, or pull by hand, or use a teeny shovel and replace it with donor grass from the edging we all have to do anyway and that I took the afternoon off to do and am currently avoiding because the weather is way too nice to do that with the day.

Okay, change of plans - had my breakfast, did my dishes earlier and since I'm trying to figure out the best place for Andy's permanent litter box location I decided the utility room. Since it's a new build home, that room still has builder's debris (they still have a few things to finish) - so I'm cleaning the floor and trimming back the plastic wrap over the insulation so it's not a foot across the floor. Collecting copper wire (crafts - the electrician gave me two boxes of cut offs when he wired this place). Putting all of that room's garbage in the separate pile by the shop which is building debris which the builder will haul. I'm not filling my $2/tag garbage bags with this stuff. So I'm not bored anymore. And I'll continue vacuuming all this place once I start that. I scared DH away to his workshop. Now I know he's not bored anymore. And Andy has found a lovely sunny spot to snooze in. Ah to be a cat. LOL
