I've intermittently ordered roses from Magic Gardens since 2003, and have had only excellent plants from them. In fact, I'd rate the quality of the bareroots slightly higher on average than Treloars for root length and plant strength.

My opinion is based onlimited HT/Flori varieties, including Parole, Best Friend, Valencia, Charles de Gaulle, Jude the Obscure, Fragrant Cloud,Jardins de Bagatelle, Violina. The only one I've dumped (gave away) was Violina - healthy as a horse but pink flower was just thud-dull boring.

The people I've dealt there were extremely pleasant,with a lovely phone manner.

Only downside: prices are higher in general than Treloars, and from memory, so are mailing costs to NSW - although the latter is of zero concern to you now that you've moved to Vic.

In short: highly recommended based on several years' ordering from MG .

I'm also considering buying from Magic Garden Roses this year. Last year I bought from Treloar, and while they did send me two freebies (DA Mayflower and a Flirtatious), I note that a couple of the bareroots I received appear to have come with a virus - the leaves have curled all year (though dont show patterning like mosaic...so who knows).and it also concerned me that several of the bareroots i was sent had canes that were splitting/damaged upon arrival. Hmm. Look I'm no expert, so I'm not saying these plants were DEFINITELY virused, i'm just saying i dont know...and I dont like feeling unsure/iffy, so am not keen to take the punt with Treloar again.

What I do know is that Magic Garden Roses openly mention virus issues on their website (saying they graft onto 100% virus-free rootstock) so therefore I feel we can assume MGR care about not sending you virused roses). that coupled with the fact MGR offer you the option to buy in pots from them, whereby you then receive a plant with some amount of foliage so you can immediately ascertain the plant's health (unlike bare-roots, where you're waiting several months to see how the leaves/canes etc grow out).

Anyway, that's my 2c worth on why i'm considering MGR this year, despite the fact I'll be paying the heavier freight costs since i'm in northern nsw. worth it for me, not to have 'doubts' about whether i've inadvertently introduced some virused roses into my garden.

I have not been impressed with Magic Garden Roses Plants the shoots are too soft and pruned when still soft letting disease into the main frame of the plants. His potted stock is cut to within an inch of its life to send mail order.
I have found a new supplier and have bought a number of plants from Ladybird Roses off ebay over the last year they have been sending bare root plants all year around and I have not had any problems with any of their roses. They are large healthy and shoot away Quickly. They now have a new website ladybirdroses.net

Curious as to your comment they ship bare rooted roses all year round, I visited their site via the link you provided and, well, that's news to me; I didn't think there was any supplier of bare rooted roses outside of their dormant season. I guess if they're properly deleafed, suitable trimmed, kept moist and planted within a few days of undergoing that shock, they should be ok.

They have been selling on E-Bay for a number of years and I have recieved roses off them even in the middle of summer with no problems just gave them plenty of water to get them started.The plants did come well packed with plenty of fine roots that might help.

Dropped into Magic Garden Roses Today to buy a Rose They have Listed and found that they had very little stock most of it was in poor condition even after taking into consideration the hot day we had yesterday.
The service was non existent with me having to run around the farm trying to find someone to take my money after having hunted out the plant I wanted by myself.
If not for the drive of over 1 hour I would have left empty handed.
I think they may be giving up selling Roses I will never return.

We spent two and a half hours driving to and fro to Magic Roses today Sunday, only to find they closed at two o'clock , i should have checked ,a nice young fella let us stay longer and was quite helpful, stock was down as it is the end of the season , probably wrong time to visit this nursery if you want to see roses in bloom, they also have had a very dry summer , the bedded display roses looked dry but were still flowering, and looked healthy , I would be confidant in saying that they grow quality roses , and i would buy off them in the future ...
