My first ever rose

Hi from Carzee, a newbie near Lake Macquarie. Planted a $5 rose, my first ever. Its bud started blooming a day or so ago. This pic is from Sunday. My problem is what is the rose's name? I have looked at many photos... seems to be either 'French Perfume' or 'Double Delight'... Thx for any help!

Hi Carzee welcome to the forum.Im sorry I cant help you with the name of the rose however with pictures of that quality I hope you buy many more roses and delight us with lots more pictures. pam

Glad you like it. I was lucky to have some time to take photos of my first rose. Trivial I suppose, but maybe years down the track I'll be very glad I took the trouble to get the pics right. I just finished doing another one from this morning...

I really like the stakes that are used to support chicken wire. They are green, have a beveled edge to push into the ground, and have brackets to anchor zip ties or wire ties. Very strong and very unobtrusive in the garden.

I received an own root plant of Charles de Gaulle from Bruce Rennie, the Canadian miniature rose breeder around 1985. I grew it in Newhall, California, mid desert, where the temperatures ranged one hundred degrees from winter to summer and kept that plant until 2007 when construction require dismantling the place. It bloomed and rebloomed as well as any of the other sixty plus lavender HTs I grew. The flowers lasted longer than many due to heavier petal texture and more petals. Very good fragrance. Very satisfactory rose.

ahhhhhhhhh.. Ladies you rock.. thank you all so much, funny how after reading your replies I looked both up you suggested. My roses look like both. Yet, the one I have is already 8 feet tall. So it must then be the Queen Elizabeth. Now with 15 more buds and blooms, today is 75 degrees and I bed those buds pop open.. whoot whoot Connie- took your advise to0 btw from the other post I put up about what roses should I get for my arbor. Ordered 2 parades to my groups. Thank you This spring- will be quite the digging adventure for mui!!! xoxoox

Thats fantastic Meribast.We've been playing around with this too just this year.Our seeds started to germinate in Winter and were just starting to sprout more and more every day.Then the unwelcome 38oC heatwave came along in September and everything just came to a holt.I was just starting to wonder if that was going to be it for this year (apparently they germinate best in cool months) when three more germinated just yesterday. I can relate to what you said about some growing faster than others.Just when you think the process is grinding along real slow, a seed will germinate and power ahead of others which have been growing slowly for weeks and weeks. I think this is "probably" (I'm definately no expert here) because we are planting lots of seed from miniature roses which often have flori/HT as one parent and another mini as the other parent.So far only a handfull have flowered but all are similar in colour to their parents.Having said that these were open pollinated.I haven't got any of my crosses to come up yet but then only managed to collect about 20 viable seed (cross pol.) so this is no suprise. I was wondering how you intend to treat your new creations ie.ruthless culling, or just let them all grow on, or something else? Anyhow congratulations and keep up the good work. P.S Misty I know for sure that Bonica will produce viable seed because some of our Australian breeders are using it and they've obtained some good results too. Thrip

Welcome to the forum Carzee-it may be your first rose but I guarantee it won't be your last if you hang around in here.:)
Your pics are stunning!Definitely NOT trivial to take and share pics like these.
It possibly is DD with autumn yellowing of the cream/white.

Thanks for the compliments. I looked out the window first thing this morning and Rosie's bloom looks wider. Another 'bloom-in-progress' photo coming up!

That is a pretty rose. Seems to yellow to be DD. Are the colours on screen fairly true? What is the fragrance like? I don't know French Perfume but DD is very fragrant.

Yes ,I agree with Sandie .Probably Double Delight.Does it have a strong perfume?dark green foliage and large buds/flowers?

Welcome Carzee yes your rose is beautiful it might be your first rose but it probably won't be your last I hope you have lots of garden space as they are very addictive.

Well, here's day 3. Its much more pink now. Unbelievably different looking. This pic is looking down on bloom. Under petals is still yellow.

Hi Carzee. Beautiful photos!! My guess is Double Delight especially as it is getting more pink with age. Also as it is a fairly commonly grown rose, very likely to get it at that special price. Your going to keep that camera busy if you get bitten with the rose bug! Watch out, they're very addictive. I can see you've got symptoms already. ;o) Ann

Those photo's are marvelous so much better than many rose books avalible !
It makes our need for a didital cammera even worse.
hope when we get it we do half as good.
Still haven't mentioned if there was a perfume?
Be cautious! roses are additive, 2 to 3 wks ago we had about 15 roses in the ground, now have close to 50! and we'er still waiting on 2 bare root deliveries.
