My first ever rose

Hi from Carzee, a newbie near Lake Macquarie. Planted a $5 rose, my first ever. Its bud started blooming a day or so ago. This pic is from Sunday. My problem is what is the rose's name? I have looked at many photos... seems to be either 'French Perfume' or 'Double Delight'... Thx for any help!

Hi Carzee welcome to the forum.Im sorry I cant help you with the name of the rose however with pictures of that quality I hope you buy many more roses and delight us with lots more pictures. pam

Glad you like it. I was lucky to have some time to take photos of my first rose. Trivial I suppose, but maybe years down the track I'll be very glad I took the trouble to get the pics right. I just finished doing another one from this morning...

Oh i know! i have loved roses for a long time and many other plants like peonies which can really bite you. I have read so many books i thought i knew so much but like anything you never realize what you dont know until you know it. I have just found this forum and i have learned much much more from it. You all have me buying HTs and old garden and many more again. I gave them up years ago and only have planted zone 4 and under for years because i was sick of losing them. Climbingpink, my Duchesse has been a pill all her life. She put out about two canes each of her first two years - all in the same angled, awkward direction. What I wouldn't have given for a straight-up vertical cane! Well, this year (her third) I got one. It came out near the top of her tallest cane and went almost 3 feet taller, so now she was lopsided the other way and wierd-looking again. I've been real nervous about cutting anything on her. After all, she might not like it. Last month I conducted an experiment, cutting a few places that looked like blind growth. And lo, the world did not end. So a week ago I took that long high cane and cut it off where it broke from the first cane. And I cut another odd cane the same way. Now I have a fairly round (though still see-through) bush. A friend once grew DdB in a tomato cage and wound up with something that looked like a standard. She liked it. All the best to you - and patience, too. Thats some beautiful photos of this rose.Its never been my favorite rose,but it sure can pump out pretty blooms.I am not fond of red roses,altho I have a few reds.My youngest daughter gave me another Mr Lincoln for Mothers Day,so will have to get it planted now.I already have a 6 footer growing and blooming.Thanks for sharing yours. You are doing the right thing. I live on top of a (small) mountain and the type of soil varies about every ten feet - must have been SOME volcanic activity way back..It can be difficult in the rocky parts,but tackled as you are going to - no problems.. I did just that - killed off the weed with spray, then newspaper, then pea straw, farmyard poo, lawn clippings (a professional mower drops his bagfuls here rather than pay the exhorbitant tip fees) Then more hay, then more poo, hosed the daylights out of it and waited until it was the month to plant... I now top up round the roses with chook poo and pea straw, and occasionally, rotted down lawn clippings. I've seen these raised beds at a TAFE college and wow did things grow in them... The thing is you have to get the mix quite solid to settle the roses in, so it's important to keep it pretty damps for a while. A bit of stomping helps consolidate. Roses don't like a lot of air around their feet. When you have everything blasting along, just keep up the spoiled hay when you need to feed and chuck in the B and B and anything else. Roses love a good feed. The bed I planted like this has far too many roses per square inch in it, but hey - no one's complaining and they are all flowering well.

Welcome to the forum Carzee-it may be your first rose but I guarantee it won't be your last if you hang around in here.:)
Your pics are stunning!Definitely NOT trivial to take and share pics like these.
It possibly is DD with autumn yellowing of the cream/white.

Thanks for the compliments. I looked out the window first thing this morning and Rosie's bloom looks wider. Another 'bloom-in-progress' photo coming up!

That is a pretty rose. Seems to yellow to be DD. Are the colours on screen fairly true? What is the fragrance like? I don't know French Perfume but DD is very fragrant.

Yes ,I agree with Sandie .Probably Double Delight.Does it have a strong perfume?dark green foliage and large buds/flowers?

Welcome Carzee yes your rose is beautiful it might be your first rose but it probably won't be your last I hope you have lots of garden space as they are very addictive.

Well, here's day 3. Its much more pink now. Unbelievably different looking. This pic is looking down on bloom. Under petals is still yellow.

Hi Carzee. Beautiful photos!! My guess is Double Delight especially as it is getting more pink with age. Also as it is a fairly commonly grown rose, very likely to get it at that special price. Your going to keep that camera busy if you get bitten with the rose bug! Watch out, they're very addictive. I can see you've got symptoms already. ;o) Ann

Those photo's are marvelous so much better than many rose books avalible !
It makes our need for a didital cammera even worse.
hope when we get it we do half as good.
Still haven't mentioned if there was a perfume?
Be cautious! roses are additive, 2 to 3 wks ago we had about 15 roses in the ground, now have close to 50! and we'er still waiting on 2 bare root deliveries.
