Lovely rose and a grand photograph.

Thank you inga007. You know, whenever I see your on-line name I wonder if you really do have a 'license to kill'! Just joking. Another lovely rose I've been meaning to take a photo of is 'Canary Bird', a lovely buttercup yellow single. It's another heritage rose, a big (tall growing) one, with sharp reddish thorns, that reputedly does not like being cut back. However, in preparation of moving it, I've just done that. Again, another that I really did have to get rid of - and I had 2 of them - is the 'Cherokee' rose, Rosa Lavigata. It's a beautiful disease free single-cum-semi-double pure white that beats 'Iceberg' any day, but being an oldie only flowers seasonally. It's thorns though have a tendency to cut pruners (and passers-by) to shreds; can leave you a 'bloody' mess, actually. I've just included a photo I took of it about 8 years ago just before I had to eradicate it as it bordered my next-door neighbours, and he was having a problem with it mowing his lawn.

A relly delicious Pink, Bill.
I'm going to prune my roses in a week or two,
theyr'e looking very straggly. Planted quite afew vegie seedlings in two beds, .One bed at side of the house are looking great.Lost some at the back of the house.
tried snail and slug traps,earwig traps and finslly decided
it was either mice or a bigger rodent.tried baiting and individually protecting each plant and success for a week.
a strange thing is the lettuce have been untouched!

Sounds like snails or slugs to me Chas; whenever I plant seedlings I know they like - petunias, lettuce, beans when they just put out their first leaves, etc., I use the green or the more rain resistant blue pellets. I've no dogs or cats to eat it, mind you, I like to preserve my local wildlife, and I've never known lizards, snakes or birds to take it. Unlikely to be mice or rats but you could try a few of the old spring traps. Poison baits, if they prefer it to jour seedlings, would just cause them to go off a die painfully in a dark spot somewhere and you'd still be left in the dark as it were.

Very quiet page all of sudden, ay Chas! You know when that happens - when, after you post a message or two and eveything goes deadly quiet, you wonder if you've said something that's offended everyone. To look at what my on-line persona (funnelweb) has written here and there, and consider if he has said something untoward - you know, from the third person perspective - I have to say, I don't think so. Then again, perhaps folks are busy, and, afterall, it is a very quiet page.
Hope those pests are leaving your vegies alone.

Yes Bill,It's either a feast or a famine and it looks as though this famine is going into the seven year stage.I send in posts spasmodically and if I get a good pic of an interesting subject(to my eye) with my little Traveler I send it in as time, inclination and family permits.I haven't
lost any more seedlings and even some of the eaten snow peas
have started to grow tendrils again.I put in some bulbs and the iris and Ranunculas are going well. The daffodils are
always a lot slower, but we should have a good show by spring.

Seduction is one of my absolute favourites. So beautiful.
I've been computer-less for the past week but it seems to be working at the moment...fingers crossed.
Seduction is the one rose that I've had reasonable success with striking. As a matter of fact, two of my "children" have come home. A number of years ago, I struck 2 and gave them to my sister. Then in the past year, she was down-sizing her garden and asked me did I want them back. So home they came. Left one in a very large pot and the other went into the ground. They are still happily growing. What a rose!! Wouldn't a border of them look spectacular?

Good to hear the vegies are picking up, Chas, I put in a dozen 'Dutch Cream, (I think the they're called), potatoes the other day; a bag of 'seed' ones I picked up at the local nursery. I understand they're a good eating variety.
'Seduction', Annie: I had a border of them in a garden at the back of the pool when I took that photo, they were so prolific I had to dead-head them in the flowering seasons every two or 3 days and clippings half filled a my wheel barrow. Gorgeous, they are, and so free flowering. Unfortunately, a poinciana tree I planted in 2003 eventually shaded about half of the border and I had to relocate them. I gave some of them to neighbours and shifted to heritage roses. Im now currently preparing a new bed for them. Tiring work, I can tell you.
