It might be late in the season, but if anyone has a few of these I have the following to trade: - Curuba (Colombian variey) - Badea (Colombian variety) - Uchuva (Colombian variety) - Star fruit/Carambola (Florida variety) - Guava (small-white Mexican variety) - Cactus Pear (white) - Dragon fruit/pitaya (white) - I also have sprouts of red dragon fruit that I could try sending.

Ethan, I hope you have a better experience with your frozen mangosteens than I did!! I thought eating the canned mangosteens was bad...the frozen would turn any first timers away from the fruit forever. The flesh in most was all dried out. The flesh that wasn't dried out had absorbed the purple stain from the rind, which turned the flesh incredibly bitter and foul. Having tried fresh mangosteen in Thailand, I could just barely get the hint of what the frozen had to offer. I let a few people here at work try one...after all of my talk about them they were anxious to try it out. I warned them that they did not do the fresh fruit any justice at all. After trying one, they looked at me like I was trying to poison them!!! There are now two people who will NEVER ever try a mangosteen again...fresh or otherwise! I'm sure there are some out there better than what I happened to get, but I won't try them again. Good luck! Hope they are good for ya.

You've got to really take in the comments concerning the smell. It really is not an issue when dealing with good, ripe fruit. Otherwise, there is no way in hell that huge shopping mall would allow a durian festival to take place inside. The smell only comes into play with seriously over ripe fruit, cut up fruit pieces discarded to bake in the sun, or fruit in a baggie kicked beneath an SUV seat. While attending all the festivals, dropping by durian stalls, or cutting up a fruit at the house, I don't recall any strong smell at all. The few times where the odor was noticeable, taste and smell are worlds apart. This fruit is not like picking up a mangosteen or lychee. As Warren mentioned, I don't believe this is a fruit most people taste for the first time and the "wow" meter jumps off the gauge. It is more of an acquired taste...one that you have to ease into gently. It does grow on you and you soon find that you must try one everywhere you go. I'm not near Warren's level yet, but it is lots of fun to have everyone stare at you when you take a bite.

heres a pic from the wiki link below of whole durians for sale which were frozen some excerpts i found particularly interesting: There are 30 recognised Durio species, at least nine of which produce edible fruit. Durio zibethinus is the only species available in the international market: other species are sold in their local regions. There are hundreds of durian cultivars; many consumers express preferences for specific cultivars, which fetch higher prices in the market. Each cultivar has a distinct taste and odor. More than 200 cultivars of D. zibethinus exist in Thailand. In recent times, Songpol Somsri, a Thai government scientist, crossbred more than ninety varieties of durian to create Chantaburi No. 1, a cultivar without the characteristic odor, which is awaiting final approval from the local Ministry of Agriculture. Another hybrid, Chantaburi No. 3, develops the odor about three days after the fruit is picked, which enables an odorless transport yet satisfies consumers who prefer the pungent odor. In Malaysia and Singapore, most consumers prefer the fruit to be as ripe and pungeant in aroma as possible may even risk allowing the fruit to continue ripening after its husk has already cracked open. In this state, the flesh becomes richly creamy, slightly alcoholic,[28] the aroma pronounced and the flavour highly complex. in 1999, the United States imported 2,000 tonnes (2,000 LT; 2,200 ST), mostly frozen Durian fruit contains a high amount of sugar, vitamin C, potassium, and the serotonergic amino acid tryptophan (whats in Turkey that makes you sleepy), Here is a link that might be useful: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durian
