That sounds awesome, Ethan. Keep on the lookout, I've also seen frozen giant rambutan, salak, green caimito, bilimbi, lanzones, and longans. Figure CA would have that at one of the bigger Asian chain stores. Let me know how the fruit turns out. Mangosteen in it's frozen state is the closest i've come to the fruit, so I know how ya feel.

here are a couple pics, the bounty, then a single mangosteen for size (the biggest fruit with a quarter). I'm thawing them in the refrigerator, the jackfruit I'll try tonight, the rest are going to be a day or two.

mangosteen, yummy. Looks in better shape than most frozen ones I've ever bought. I have never had the wolfberry before. We do fortunately get fresh durian and jackfruits in my area from time to time. Also the larege 'White' variety of cherimoyas has been showing up here for a while. Darn, you got me craving everything I'm gonna probably have to go hunting for tropical fruits this weekend and spend more money than I wanted to. =)

Ethan, I hope you have a better experience with your frozen mangosteens than I did!! I thought eating the canned mangosteens was bad...the frozen would turn any first timers away from the fruit forever. The flesh in most was all dried out. The flesh that wasn't dried out had absorbed the purple stain from the rind, which turned the flesh incredibly bitter and foul. Having tried fresh mangosteen in Thailand, I could just barely get the hint of what the frozen had to offer. I let a few people here at work try one...after all of my talk about them they were anxious to try it out. I warned them that they did not do the fresh fruit any justice at all. After trying one, they looked at me like I was trying to poison them!!! There are now two people who will NEVER ever try a mangosteen again...fresh or otherwise! I'm sure there are some out there better than what I happened to get, but I won't try them again. Good luck! Hope they are good for ya.

A friend mentioned eating them while still somewhat frozen to avoid the bitterness bleeding from the skin. They were not bad, in fact, they were alright, definately not the "queen of fruits" in this form. It did make me even more curious to try fresh mangosteens now.

these wolfberries were very dry, in fact I might try to rehydrate slightly with water or maybe gingerale. As they stand now, they tast much like a dry raisin. They are very high in vitamin C and antioxidants. Supposedly the fresh fruit is much better, I plan to plant some of the seeds myself.

will try jackfruit with lunch today and maybe durian tonight........Wonder if they got the cherimoyas in yet?

That absolutely reminds me that I did it eat when it was partially frozen before too, it was better than when left out to thaw.

I find this to be true with the frozen Lanzones too, because when it thaws the sap or latex from the seeds and/or skin seem to spread to the fruit and it turns the fruit bitter.

The first round of fresh durians and mangosteen are arriving here now from Thailand.
