Rose Email group AU & NZ

I was looking around to join a rose email list/group and found there were only groups based in the US or UK. One thing I have learned on the forum is that growing roses in Australia may not be the same as other places.

Since I have started other Yahoo email lists/groups before...

I started another group on Yahoo

Roses Australia and New Zealand

I will likely turn it over to someone else (who would know more than me)if there is a interest and it becomes a well used list. You can post to the group, either receive the group posts directly or go to the site and read them, post pictures, chat and there is a place for files and data bases to be made.

I also welcomed supplies/growers to advertize as long as they were from AU or NZ. I will make a file for suppliers/growers to list their contact information or web sites.

This is a truly amazing post Deb. I could see, from reqading it that you have only been a GW member for a very short time. There was a time, only recently, when use of the "Y" word (see I still can't bring myself to use it, given the trouble it has caused me in the past) put you in Garden Web solitary confinement for several months. Now you can use it several times in one post, and even include an e-mail address!
This is truly the dawning of a new era for Garden Web under it's new ownership! LOL

I really have no idea what you are talking about.

If listing other areas on the web for information exchange and conversation about roses is against the rules or culture of this forum, I appologies for my indiscretion.

I got my order this past Tuesday only 1 day after shipping! Beautiful plants! I was so excited and then so challenged by the boxes and in kind of a hurry since out-of-town company was due soon that I didn't notice that 1 of the 5 roses I ordered, Valencia, wasn't there, but Apricot Nectar was. I finally noticed after company left and I was watering my roses. I emailed them and I'm waiting to hear back to see if this was a mistake or a substitution. I'll be very confused if the substitution was on purpose since she verified it was in-stock and I wasn't asked one way or the other about subs. Not complaining right now, mind you, just confused. There wasn't even indication on the packing slip. Valencia was checked off as if it, too, was in the box. Would this be odd if it IS a substitution? Thanks.

Hi Jan, I filled the survey out about 12 months ago and part of the survey was structured to find out the control methods used by those with Lantana. Basically the DNR was developing a "Best Practice" procedure as apparently to date very little serious research had been done. (Why re-invent the wheel when the public have been using it for years.) The DNR is a QLD state dept. but the initiative for this is Federal. I believe QLD and NSW are the most seriously affect states of this weed. Hey Len, I sympathise with your frustration about the local councils/shires but if you have it on your property it can still be spread outside to other properties, including the roads unless you get rid of all the birds that carry the seed. LOL Unfortunately we the grass roots people do pull our weight more than the shire councils but it has to start somewhere. Doug.

'Rose Edouard' in US -- who has a pink one?

Here are updates on the Rose Edouard plants I have. 1. The one from Greenmantle Nursery bloomed twice and is the "real" thing! Medium pink flowers with a sweet lingering old rose damask fragrance. 2. The "Rose Edouard" from Roses Unlimited has tons of foliage but no blooms! I am frankly not even sure it is Rose Edouard. 3. And I know now that the Rose Edouard from Rose Petals Nursery with its dark pink petals and silvery reverse is the imposter Rose Edouard. I am really excited about the Paneer Rose---the Rose Edouard or Rose Edward as it is called in India! I got it from a vendor in Dallas. I posted a photo of its bloom three days ago. In terms of the scent, it is pretty close to the one from Greenmantle. I should probably take a photo of the two plants side by side for foliage. The Paneer rose is more leggy. I don't have information on its provenance, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is an offspring (cutting) of a Paneer rose plant that made its way to the US in the 80s.

UPDATE for 2024: High Country Roses add lots of Autin own-roots to their inventory (sold out to those who ordered early): Jude the Obscure, The Prince, Ambridge Rose, Abraham Darby, W.S. 2000, Othello, Carding Mill, Sophy's Rose, Evelyn, The Dark Lady, Wise Portia, Charles Darwin, Emanuel, Sharifa Asma, Charles Austin, Eglantyne, Lucettta, Molineux, Graham Thomas, Tamora, Noble Antony, Benjamin Britten, Gertrude Jekyll, Mary Rose, Heritage, Tess of d'Urberville and many others. I got my W.S. 2000 from High Country Roses back in 2011. I should had ordered from High Country Roses back in Nov. 2023, it's only $23.95 per own-root Austin. High Country Roses in CO now ships roses to Canada.

No Deb it isn't (apparently) any more. I didn't mean to give you the wrong idea. We used to have to watch ourselved very carefully with the previous Garden Web owners. (this exchange is owned by Village, as in the cinema chain - nothing is free on the net)
I have tried to do exactly as you have done, and in the past it was not possible to even mention the "Y" word. You would be transferred to the Disney web site, and would find yourself removed from the GW forums indefinitely.
Things have clearly improved in that area atleast, and it is good that we can be much more open here and share in new developments such as yours. The forums should be about sharing gardening information after all.
There are very few Aus based forums or e-groups.
I am one of the moderators of Austgardens, a similar group to yours, but for general gardening. It spends a lot of time in the doldrums unfortunately, where Garden Web seems to get much more traffic.
