mea culpa - or I am learning from experience (I think)

About a year ago when I was planting roses along 13 big roof beams that come to the ground at the back of my house, I asked for suggestions to replace Sombreuil. I had 6 Graham Thomas alternating with 6 sombreuil which was too thorny.

Climbing iceberg was suggested and then someone, was it GarryK, or Deryn, or someone else, said "I like Clb Mrs Herbert Stevens better than iceberg". When you do not have experience, I thought, a white rose is a white rose and I know clb iceberg is floriferous.

Well - whoever you were - I now agree with you and I am going to move the 6 clb icebergs to a less key position on some fence somewhere - and buy some climbing Mrs H. Stevens. I have the bush of her and the blooms are each such a joy when they open - so lovely.

Whereas iceberg is white, and it blooms but my heart does not sing when I see a bloom. I do not have any smell really so I do not know why I react this way. But Mrs Stevens, I love to inspect each bloom and bud as they are so lovely.

Thank you whoever you were!
