CI, TZ, SdlM all growing nicely now. I think this will be a good fragrance bed. I put Lion's rose in the back to add beauty and a good leafy background even though it isn't much on scent. I think if the base gets shaded by the others, it won't get disease. There's room to the right of Abe Darby for one more big rose. I think it's going to be Evelyn. Hopefully, it will work some magic for me. This is a good morning sun spot and gets shade in the hottest times of the day. My summer is a little hotter than Hoovb's but maybe it's close enough. I'm going to hope for the best. The only downside to this location is that it will take the full force of the Santa Ana wind from across the street. We are along the Santa Ana river channel and the wind blows strongly through the gap. It seems to be shifting later than Halloween now. I used to call it the Halloween Wind.

My Queen of Sweden would not be appropriate for a pillar--very upright, vertical, narrow and only about 3.5ft tall. Maybe it would grow taller in your zone, but it doesn't strike me as the type at all to wrap around a pillar. You are planning to wind the rose around the pillar, aren't you? My Mortimer Sackler has much longer and very flexible canes that would wrap much more easily around a pillar. I trim mine off to keep it a shrub of about 5ft or so, but it obviously would like to grow taller--would look great on a trellis, but again I'm having trouble seeing it wrapped around a pillar--much to bushlike--there would be way too many canes to have to tie to the pillar. So I wouldn't recommend it either for that usage. By the way, if you go with either one, they are both quite disease-resistant. I almost never spray them. Can't advise on the others, but if you want a recommendation, Viking Queen makes a wonderful climber wrapped around a pillar. And Florence grows hers successfuly in a fair amount of shade, if I remember correctly. However, 4 hours sun isn't the best spot to try to grow any rose. Good luck. Hope you find your perfect rose. In N. America we have some Kordes bred roses we introduce that Kordes does not introduce in Europe for various reason - examples Plum Perfect, Savannah, South Africa, Lemon Fizz Kolorscape. That is not to say they are not really great roses. Someday Kordes may introduce them. Plum Perfect has been introduced in S. Africa and Australia under the name Novalis. A lot of consideration goes into an introduction that is not to say it is not a good rose including regional tastes, what is already introduced in the same color range, climate, cold hardiness, disease resistance and so on. Plum Perfect is one of the most floriferous roses I have in trial. It is not a big bush - it is now reaching 3 tall' x 3.5' wide in my home garden after 3 years planted from an own root band pot. It is a vigorous rose in my Zone 8 - just compact. In colder climates I wonder if it will get big enough, but quite a few of the trial sites have also been happy with the flower production and the relatively compact size of this rose. It is one of the last roses still in bloom in my garden and was blooming this past December. I rate it among my favorites just for the bloom power. It has one bloom open today, but I will shoot an image for you tomorrow so you can see what I mean about compact, but vigorous.
