Coming back from the Doc's this afternoon and Hubby was just veering over to our driveway

and I yell stop and he did and I gets out of the car and here was this poor dead snake

on the road near our crossover it looks like it had been run over twice. Hubby picked it up

with a stick and put it in the gutter to get after ( we forgot ) and I did not want to go out later

as it had got dark just in case one its family was around..But I did hear a lot of Kookaburra's

laughing do they eat dead snakes or do they prefer to catch then live ..Anyone know ?.....Cheers..MM.

Everything so green and wet after the rain the soil is all spongy and these are out once again..

Poor snake, looks to be a big one too. They will insist on crossing roads though.

Zephyranthes put on a good display. I don't have any now, used to have a lot as they spread everywhere, so went around pulling heaps out but must have been too good at weeding as none have come back up.

Poor little snake. Still, I do think the kookaburras will eat it. If they will eat chops and snags off the barbie, why not a dead snake? At least it wouldn't be a total waste.
Love those little flowers, I'm not familiar with them. Are they a warm climate bulb?

I yanked them. After looking at several photos, walking my yard, and asking friends & neighbors, I have no doubt they were Ragweed. The Cosmos I planted has come up, and doesn't even resemble the ragweed. The weed was so close to Daylillies I planted that I figured I would be better off without it anyway. Thanks for all the help. I would be LOST without this forum. Being a first year newbie, I need all the help I can get, and I appreciate it so much.

If it was in a pot it will probably have been raised in a greenhouse and even if a hardy perennial type would be too delicate to go outside. They often turn out to be a bunch of rooted cuttings rather than a single sturdy plant and are brought on for specific dates or seasons. I would just put it in the coolest lightest place I had indoors and hope it keeps going a while longer. Even outdoor types which flower in the Autumn don't carry on much beyond the first frost.

I was not going to go into it. because I was shocked. SHOCKED! When I pointed out that it was art in my post above because I noticed that the proportions are amazingly "harmonious" and I checked, it was coincidental to the Golden Section Rectangle proportions! Sure it could have been accidental, but no! More! The inside rectangle follows the Root Five Rectangle proportions! Hi Dee I know that other members grow them in cooler climate I got this off a web site
" They are cold hardy as far north as USDA zone 5"
So I would reckon you could grow them in Victoria.
Hubby bagged that snake this morning I guess the Kookaburra's prefer them alive or cooked.
And we are having a BBQ tonight and it is not on the Menu....Cheers...MM.

What a shame, a harmless green tree snake.
My Zephyranthes are putting on a bit of a display at the moment too.
