MaryAnne, just the person I want to talk too ! I am so sorry for not sending your Iries. Life gets real busy and I spend my money quickly and there is not much left after. But I will buy that pre paid plant package first thing this week comming and dig some Iries up for you. I just need your address, I can't remember if you re gave it to me or not and where I might have it stored.
Instead of sending you some Iries, I was buying 24 new ones, and I was hoping you would forgive me again as in the future I will be able to send you a great variety more. I will get my act together.

Hi Karen I will email you.. What a beautiful garden you have there and such healthy roses.
Most of mine are under water at present, we are not flooded but have had a lot of rain.
Some will probably die like last year and wont be getting replaced so I will have to look at your ones instead.

Hello Karen, Just had another look in and found you here too. As I said, old friends are like roses, they fade for a while but will always come back. I have just re-discovered how to post from photobucket, my goodness that has changed a lot too, more complicated but very good. Your garden is absolutely marvellous. We have gone from large to a tiny unit and garden but still managed to find spce for a few roses Will look forward to seeing some of your photos on the photo gallery.

Misty, or Mary Ann, you are a wonder, your photos are truly magnificent. Will you tell me what forums you are looking at. Haven't used the computer for a while so am rusty but thanks to you have found my way back.

Oh, triciac, I just posted a response to your earlier message. I, too, am keen on roses. Also I'm a keen 'natives', gardener/grower as well as induging in exotics, of course.

Funnelweb, sounds like you and I must have similar gardens, I too share a two pronged love.. Natives all around and roses in the centre!

I just posted another to that previous site. Hey snodge, Outer Sydney, I lived most of my days there (Allambie Heights) until I retired to the Northern Rivers district. Whenever I'm down there visiting the children and grandchildren I spend a day or two visiting my old favourite native nurseries, mostly around Terry Hills, though I also sometimes drop by Bonds along Mona Vale Road as I pass by it. Do you wander into the Aussie natives forum?

Hi Funnelweb, I have spent time on the natives forum in the past, but not so much recently, as I struggle to spend any time thinking about the garden at all just at the moment. I've only popped in ever so briefly to the natives forum of late. I did have a lovely natives forum member help me to acquire a persoonia pinifolia which is one of my favourite plants in the garden. So easy and so lovely, but boy was it expensive!

I have been planning to get over to the nursery at Terry Hills ... is it warianda ??? Long time since I've been to Bonds.
We have another thing in common.. I grew up at Collaroy Plateau and spent a lot of time down when I was growing up around pittwater and at Ku-ring-gai Chase NP.Drove through Allambie heights often on the way to the rellies place at Turramurra. I think KCNP is my spirit place.. so I'm a northern beaches bod too!
I wish that angophera costata would do well here, but our soil is a bit too heavy for it. I can't wait for the bark shedding season. KCNP and especially resolute picnic area are a real spectacle in bark shedding season.

Hi ya again snodge (see the roses forum). Angophera costata, gees there's some beauties down there in that area, a wonder you can't grow one! I use to admire a few mature ones on my evening walks after work, particularly around early summer, I think, when they shed their bark to reveal that beautiful red new look. Yes I think its Warrianda, along Mona Vale Road before you get to Bonds, not far east of Australian Native Landscapes. Mr Bamboo is in the same grounds or is next door, and that lovley Japanese garden is there too. The other is just before Tumble Down Dick hill, past Kimbriki tip, the turn off is, just before you go up the hill to the Bahi Temple on the left. Just follow the signs. For me now, up here, I have to drive to Nielsens Native Nursery an hour away towards Brisbane. Not as good as the one's down there though. The nursery I really do miss however, is the old Belrose Nursery off French's Forest Road, but its closed down to now. And also Viburnum Gardens that was once at Arcadia, it too closed up and moved down Bowral way.

yes, property prices around Arcadia and Dural and such have pushed a lot of the old nursery operations out of town. .. still it's not all bad. I used to like to visit Rainbow Ridge out Dural.. or was it Kenthurst.. then they moved out to Burnt Yards near Orange. It's better at Burnt Yards, a lovely drive out through the countryside then acres of flowering bearded iris. Makes a lovely day. .. this being the rose forum I guess I should say, I find the bearded iris quite a good companion in the rose garden.. LOL
There's a great native nursery down near Mittagong called Wariapendi. They have quite a lot of useful natives in tubes plus a good range of things in larger pots.

On tube stock snodge, Thawa Tube Stock nursery is also just off Mona Vale Road, along the road that runs paralell (excuse spelling) north of Mona Vale Road. Almost opposite Australian Landscape Supplies. I haven't been there for years but they did have a good stock. Orange and Mittagong are a bit far for me these days. Still some good rose nurseries out Dural and Arcadia way though, Swaines and others. Oh, I also posted a response to the message above.

Isn't that great that Snodge and Funnelweb are two of a kind. Who knows, they may even know one another. At least we have all got lot in common with our roses and gardening and lovely to hear from everyone. I just went to the Oz Garden Gallery but no one has posted there for months. What a shame.

just popped by. Been away again. Combination of a trip and another death. This time Mother in Law. Sigh.
Anyway, the roses are leafing and budding up and the rock orchids are hanging on to their flowers.
Lots of rain here in Sydney at the moment. I guess it will probably be a humid summer this year and we'll really get a sense of how disease resistant our bushes are.

Well, at least this page is still attracting readers, Aussie natives appears to have given up the ghost.
Now into October and my new rose garden (transplanted 'em all back in July) and my new season's ones: Ballerina; David Austin's 'Happy Child'; Seafoam; French Lace - though my French L. is not apricot, it's pink and so I have a doubt about the label that came with the plant, which I bought in a pot at Big W - and one or two 'patio' roses are all starting to bloom nicely. Love the look of Ballerina and Happy Child. If we have readers in this page, I'll take a picture or two and post 'em. Would like advice as to this 'French Lace' of mine, anyone else got it as a multi petalled pink fading to white?

We are getting rain also not a lot drizzly most days 2-3 mm a decent shower of 10mm this afternoon.
The garden tanks are full 26,000 lts of free water and the grass is green so I am happy

Once again condolences Snodge, but she is a happier place now. It is no good this getting old business, I always say that if ever I get to heaven (doubtful) I will ask God why he didn't make us be born old and die young. Would be good to see pain disappearing instead of increasing.
Funnelweb, I would love to have the space to grow Ballerina, I have seen so many pictures of her so will really look forward to seeing your photos when she is out in bloom. I had Sea Foam as a 6 ft. mini standard, until a gale decapitated her.

Ok, finally got a couple of pics in. I didn't include Balerina, she's just come into flower a few days ago, but hey! soft pink on the edges, delicate white towards the centre; gorgeous, but only a few so far. The roses I've shown here are David Austin's 'Happy Child' - its first flower - delicious 'tea' scent, but it fades a bit from the second day on. The other is Frau Dagnar Halstrup, an old world rose I took a fancy to many years ago but was unable to get one until a few years back. It's now in its third spot and flowering better this spring, just hope I can get it to grow a bit more. Frau is an old rose that is completely disease free but unfortunately only a spring bloomer, though occasionally she puts out a flower or two through summer. However, her after-flower hips are large, red, and worth not 'dead-heading' for. I just love single roses, especially old fashioned ones, dunno why, seems there's a purity about them.
Rain, gees we're getting a bit, I'm thinking I should have put in a tank. Last downpour, a bit over a week ago, 150mils, and now again it's rained all day! I reckon if I stand still too long I'll grow mildew!

thanks to all for your condolences. MIL is definitately in a happier place. Her last few years have been very tough for her and she was ready to go, so now for us to just celebrate her life and be happy for her that her suffering is over, and try not to be too sad.
Beautiful pictures Funnelweb. It's great to hear about your gardens. You have inspired me. Rather than sit here fretting about a delay getting away this morning, I went out into the garden.. oops I mean jungle... and enjoyed the beauty that persists among the tangle. the blooms and scents are so soothing to the spirit. Even my clematis has long tendrils out into the grassy area. They have a reputation for being tricky, but gosh, my clematis has been sooooo tough. I never give it any love or attention and it's still survived. Amazing.
And I have been further inspired. I think I'll start another blog to record the rehabilitation of my garden. Legal fight with landscaper should conclude by end of year and we can really get going on the yard, so it will be great to start now while it's a bit .. well.. embarrassing LOL.
Re French lace, mine was a uniform cream/white. No pink anywhere. I suspect a mislabel.
I have to dash just now, but I'll post a link to my garden blog and piccies when I get a chance to put it up. I think it will look more like garden true confessions than an inspiration just now... but you will at least see my trusty tea roses.. they are just so awesome.

PS.. Funnelweb, my persoonia pinifolia is looking wonderfully happy. Lots of snottygobbles on it. Wouldn't it be great if it self seeds. It is a local native after all.. fingers crossed.
