Yellow flowered small tree

Anybody could give me the name of this pretty yellow flowered tree. I don't know how big it gets as I keep it pretty much cut down to a small tree.

Looks like a Allamanda flower to me elfi though they are a creeper.

Thanks Misty, I have got an Allamanda, and it's different, also the leaves are different and when the flowers die on that one, it leaves pods with the seeds inside. I think if you let it, it would grow into quite a tallish tree.

Yes, it must be Sassafras. It will be easy enough to verify once it leafs out. The habitat (mixed pine/hardwood) is too dry to be spicebush. Thank you all for your help!

they look like little bees or jellow jackets to me. either way they are good, because they are helping pollinate the flowers.

After a lot of thinking, I reminded me of the flowers of Wrightia antidysenterica. So I googled for some Wrightia species with yellow flowers and found W. saligna. The flowers are very similar but the leaves are way different.

That's wonderful.. I meant to get back to that flower and look in my Tropical and Sub-tropical Whats flowering now book.
But I cant find it I must have loan it to someone or I need new glasses..

I'm not 100% sure that's it - but if so Tecoma stans is regarded as a weed by DPI in Qld (see link and see what I mean about the difference in their photo esp leaves?)

Anyway it does look similar to something I grew once which was in the bignonia family also and the description "shrub" should probably mean "small tree" which means rapid growth and so needing lots of pruning if planted in wrong possie, and also they set lots of seed which means you may get a snowing and lots of unwanted seedlings.

A great stunning flower though so don't do anything radical without checking into the ID a bit more and then you know what you're dealing with or facing

Sorry I meant to amend that to say that MY remembered shrub had a weedy propensity but let's not assume the worst for you yet without a bit more research.
