Pitaya/Dragon Fruit

I have plenty of Selenicereus megalanthus (yellow skinned clear fleshed)cuttings for trade. I'm looking for both the red skinned species (one has the red flesh the other white)I want to gather different clones from throughout Australia.

If you have material and are not 100% sure on the species name I have a contact who will be conducting a screen test or fingerprint of species in the near future.

Please, no wild material as they tend to be very poor pollinators and a waste of time.

It would be appreciated if you can provide as much information as possible, such as where the material came from, flowering period, fruit discription, what you believe the species is and so on.

Mick1. Hi! I wonder if you have ever observed fruit basal rot (caused by the fungus Fusarium) in your Selenicereus plants. If so would you give a hand letting me know how to manage this problem?

Hi, newbie here: Does anyone have Blackberry(organic); Thimbleberry(doesn't need to be organic); Coriscan Mint ( Mentha requienii ); or an edible Rose(organic). Although I'm open to interacting online and via mail, --I would prefer to get things in person somewhere near me in West LA/ Santa Monica area( especially as it would be great to know more edible gardeners in my local community). Right now I have organic Pitaya( Dragon Fruit) to trade( both magenta and white fleshed), and organic Bergamot, and organic Aloe Vera. I hope to soon also have the things mentioned above & then would be able to trade from them too. Also if anyone has a Golden/Yellow fleshed Kiwi Plant that I can either trade for or buy, or know of where I can purchase one, that would be great too. I would like a self-fertile Kiwi, but am also interested in a compatible male that will increase its fruitfulness. If I get these I will be happy to trade from them as well. Its coming along great Tuan. I can see its going to have a nice paver patio around it. One of the tropicals that gives good returns are the Guava's. As always,Mango tree's also. Cherimoyas. White Sapote- but thats a full blown tree and I cant promise you would love it. I do..but some can't take the custard texture. Persimmons in fall give a lot of fruit. I'm waiting to endorse banana's. For you Papaya's should be easy. I hear Thai "Red" is a heavy producer along with the common Solo. Anyways- nice Pitaya set up.

Hi there,

I recently returned from a holiday in Vietnam, and fell in love with dragon fruit.

Does anyone know where you can buy dragon fruit in Melbourne? I've checked out Footscray Market, and various greengrocers, Asian supermarkets etc.

Hi Steve,

I think you can get dragon fruit from the fruit store just outside the newsagent located in Melbourne Central (opposite State Library) along Swanston St. Otherwise try to check out the other fruit store at the corner of Elizabeth St. and Burke St. (opposite Angus & Robertson bookstore)

I have some fresh seed from a red-skinned, white fleshed dragonfruit bought at the supermarket if mickl or anyone cant find a fruit. Would love to trade for other fruiting c&s. Have sown about 50 seed and all have germinated. Cheers. Jus.

I have just been given cuttings of the 2 reds and one yellow pitaya. What should I do to them for best results? I live in Cairns.

I'm not sure what colour mine is, has'nt flowered yet. I do know 1 fruit in the supermarket is $5.00 and they dont look very yum either. Are these hard to fruit? I thought they'd be easy seen as though there just a succulent that can be chopped up and re-planted! What do they taste like?

Okay I am chasing some cutting of any of the dragon fruit cacti I think they are called, plus any roots of the chinese water chestnut... Getting a new chinese daughter in law, and think this is something she may use and eat... thanks I live in perth area.. Happy to pay for postage etc..
