You all have the most spectacularly clear photos with great focus. What cameras are you using?

Hi Lauren...I have two camera's..My old Canon A70 goes with me everywhere.
The new Canon 20D I use around the garden as it is a lot heavier
And I cannot bear the weight of it around my neck due to a injured shoulder.

Mine was one of the cheapest cameras I could find at the time, many cheaper and better ones now. Only has basic settings but it does the job it was originally bought for - photos of work products - though now it is used more for us as we don't need it for work as much.

I'm going to stick my 2 cents worth in here. I've had many Canon cameras and have loved them all. My current one is an SX10-IS which has a fantastic "Super Macro" feature that allows 0" focusing distance - yes, you can set something directly on the lens and it focuses beautifully. Amazing feature. Also has a 20x optical zoom and an excellent lens, many options for control or total automatic. I can't recommend this series of cameras enough. Quality is *this close* to a dSLR (we also have a Canon 10D) and it really takes stunning images. There are 2 other models in this range since I bought my camera - the SX1-IS and the SX-20 IS. Carmellia, I'm Canon all the way. I have one of the S series that joyfulsnowflake mentioned. Mine is the S5 IS and I've had it since the firt of the year. It takes absolutely stunning photos and is fairly reasonably priced. The only negatives are that it is 'slow' meaning if you're shooting fast moving subjects or low light you may get some pretty blurry shots. So for birds, wild animals, and fast moving kids it's just so so. For gardens and scenery it's fantastic. The other negative is that the lens cover pops off easily. I also own two Canon SLRs, both older models (D30 and 10D) and they are great cameras too, both available second hand for reasonable prices. If I were buying a new Digital SLR, I'd be looking at the Canon Rebel. I have a Rebel 35 mm and loved it. It's just a backup now as I don't use film unless forced. But the digital Rebel looks great. I know a few people who have it and they say really good things.

Hi Lisa It is amazing how many of the eggs do hatch. The last batch had 22 eggs and 19 of them hatched. Only one duck stays till the end and is the only mama. The others are fought with and generally give up after they lay their eggs or they find a new nest for part of the eggs. The one nest we have now had 27 eggs and I am sure there is at least one more in it. I did not go and count eggs today as we had grandkids all day. Where are you located. We have so many wood ducks and I am sure part of it is because of the boxes. They say the female will come back to the area that she was hatched in. I keep telling my hubby we need more boxes, but he says no, he will not ring the pond with duck boxes. Connie

Here's what I use: Cameras: In restaurants: Olympus Stylus 800...little pocket point & shoot. If indoors with lamp over table: I set the white balance (WB) to the incandescent bulb setting, portrait, closeup and exposure compensation +.03. NEVER USE FLASH. At home: Olympus SP560UZ or Canon 30D...near open window for daylight, shutter speed from 1/80 to 1/125, aperture around f3.4. (Aperture priority,) white balance set to cloudy, closeup (the little tulip icon), again no flash. If you have an optical zoom, it often helps to stand back a little and use the zoom (never use digital zoom) to get in close to the subject without the distortion which often happens when you put the camera too close to the subject. Remember to always press the shutter half way down to activate the focusing. When it beeps (or flashes) to say you're in focus then press the shutter the rest of the way down. Take photos from several slightly different angles and keep your eye open for stray bits of food or sauce dribbled or hanging over the edge of the plate. When it's enlarged and seen at close range, the slightest little untidy bits can look large and unappetizing. Pay close attention to the composition and the lighting. SharonCb

I use a Panasonic FZ30 has 12x zoom lens with max 8 mp.
Only had it a couple months and am very pleased with it.

I bought a Canon S2is a few monthes ago.Its great and the super macro mode is awesome for botanical close ups.

Hi Lauren,recently bought a Panasonic DMC LZ1GN a great little camera for close ups and starters with good guide how to use,got it cheap so look around they are on special,greencroc.

I've got a Nikon D50. It's great, I really enjoy using it. It looks and works exactly like a standard SLR film camera. Takes all the Nikon compatible lenses and has a real shutter. The good thing about the Nikons is they have instant startup time, 0.2 seconds, and no delay when you press the shutter release.

I have been trying to get into the Garden Web all day, I don't know why we now have to log in, my camera is Canon power shot A300 it is a little beauty & didn't cost a fortune

Ah well, dragging toes in the dirt, when I bought my Kodak 3400 some years back, it was then pretty XXXY. It was a reward for myself for finally getting up the courage to go to the dentist for some major pain.
I loved the camera then and I still do, though whew the improvements and the price drops since then!. Still the wisest words the camera salesman ever told me was -- don't drop back and look in the window next week.
I saw Ian's camera at his open garden, it looks fantastic and takes incredible shots. Mind you, for half what I paid some years back, you now get 3 times the resolution!!!

Mine is my 3rd digital camera. I had a Ricoh, a Nikon and now the DSLR Canon 300D which I totally love but is longer made. The nearest to it are the Canon 350D and the Canon 20D.

Thanks for all your feedback! I've currently got a little Kodak 4mp Easyshare - which is great to always have on me, and prior to that a Canon EOS 500N and liked the manual zoom and focus and also liked it being an SLR. And I just wanted some food for thought on what you were using for my next camera; and you've certainly given me something to research. Thanks!!
