Rain lilies - Zephyranthes - are related to Amaryllis so no, not a 'true' lily (Lilium genus). There is an Amaryllis/Hippeastrum forum on Garden Web if you are interested.

The beetles and their larvae only eat stems and foliage - the bulbs are unaffected. So no need to dig up and clean or move :-) And the lilies should come back just fine next season. If the beetles are present in your area, there is not much you can do to deter them. Other than avoid planting lilies :-) Hand picking is the most effective if laborious solution. And there are some insecticides you can use but most will be broad spectrum and affect other, more beneficial insects as well. Neem oil is pretty benign and together with hand picking can reduce larvae as well as deter adult predation.

With the exception now and again of the variegated form, they are almost impossible to find outside of a few mail order sources and none are ranked or selected for a stronger fragrance than others. However the species - just the straight Convallaria majalis - is widely available almost anywhere. It is a strong, robust plant with an intense, carrying fragrance. IME, it is the number of flower spikes produced that create the fragrance intensity and the species is a prolific bloomer.
