Thanks for the link. I've read the terms a couple of times since they've appeared and not really sure how to take it. What we need is a lawyer or someone with legal knowledge to explain it to those of us who can't read legaleese.

Or better still GW themselves to explain it properly.

Well I think the best way out of this is to delete your photos from Photobucket or whoever you store them with on the Web about a week after you posted them, then no one can get them I see plenty of people do it.

Dont know about the ones that we put in the Hortiplex Database I have not quite worked that one out yet as they could be locked in who knows..

deleting from photobucket sounds like a good idea - if anyone wants to see my photos after a week or two they can email me - and I'll include a note to that effect at the bottom of my posts.

It'll upset some of the really good photographers around here that their handy work and skills can be hijacked by an american company for their own use.

Hrmmph boy am I miffed. I raised this 5 days ago and you all pooh poohed me("check out the new terms of service...")
However apparently the forum management is working on a new user friendly version. I think they will put it up on the suggestions forum , so I await that with interest. Who knows whether it will be changed or just reworded.

They mean the personal website you set up here, your journal type thingy.

Moral of it all is don't upload a picture here you'd like to retain ownership of.

according to what's on the link in the rose forum - everything we write on the forum can be used - this includes tips, hints, how tos. --- I suggested we will find an iVillage gardening book out soon

and according to the legalese of the new terms of service what ever we put in the web site can be used in anyway iVillage seems fit - this include emails, members diaries etc......

Hmmm! I was preparing to launch my own garden photos on GW, but now I'm not so sure. What with the iritation of the video ads, among other things, maybe we should start our own independent Aussie website.

I have read a lot of kerfuffle about the new ways with iVillage and the forum, many different ideas, some very anti, some agree , some are leaving, some are staying but by an all it is so very confusing.

Then I did a Google for something and there were a whole lot of entries about the tree and such from GardenWeb.
So if Google is able to use the information, what is the difference with iVillage using it ?

This is such a large and informative forum it would be a shame to change it as I must say I have looked at a few others and they are not as easy to navigate my way round in.
Can someone tell me the difference, in plain language that is not too lawyerish [?]
