Don't even bother trying to bring bulbs in from other countries. Even IF they were allowed in they cost a fortune to be kept in quarantine and sprayed (you pay)and more often than not the spray would kill them.
Try growing your bulbs from seed. You are allowed to bring in many kinds of bulb seed. There is an Australian Bulb Association where people can help with advise.

Do you mean from overseas or just from the east? I have bought some a couple of times. Mostly I get them from the bulb companies. Bulbs are dry so are not subject to the same restrictions as plants. We have an on article eastern state companies being fined by AQISWA for not declaring everything in packages coming over west, seeds not being listed mainly. Maybe other local papers printed it too.

hi aggie, from memory bulbs I ordered from companies in the east had to be treated to come in so I wouldnt buy any from ebay, check with wa ag though to be sure.

oh forgot to add, try the link below for bulbs they might have what youre looking for and they send to wa. just a tip though, I wouldnt order any plants, only bulbs or succulents because the travelling time (and stop off at quarantine) is too long and any plants I ordered arrived dead :(

This came from WAQIs from a query I had. The list of plants is an Excel document and lists things OK and weed and is handy to keep as a reference when ordering from interstate. Let's face it, the choice here is so limited!!! I've had no trouble with what I got. But there are lots of bulb companies and one at least is free postage over $30. I'll copy the letter for you on email.

Annabel and Trancegemini - thanks a lot for that. I have succumbed and bought from local hardware. There were some gorgeous bulbs on ebay but seller actually said on the listing that buyers from WA and Tas shouldn't bother bidding due to quarantine ...

With regard to buying bulbs from interstate and getting them to grow: I ordered some from a company in Victoria, and given that I live in Brisbane, that was probably fairly silly! I bought ones supposedly better for subtropical/tropical conditions. Some grew, many didn't despite following planting instructions to the letter. Of those that grew, many didn't flower, or only lasted one year and that was that. Don't know what I did wrong but another friend of mine had the same problem. I think the bulbs acclimatise to where they're brought up, so now I'll only buy from local producers.

Beebs - thanks for that. I will plant out my bulbs from local hardware store on Anzac day, and gaze longingly at bulbs on ebay ...

Agnes, a surprising number of bulb plants grow easily from seed if you can wait that bit longer and it's sooooo much cheaper. A lot of the ebay sellers do sell seed to WA which I have had no trouble with and you can download our ag dept site for reference. It's a long Excel document. I also get seed from the Australian Bulb Association and at $1 a packet for members, cheaper on sale!, you can't get cheaper. I plant the seeds in polystyrene boxes and wait!! The new Autumn listing should be out soon.
