You should be fine, I always wait until the full moon in October, the gravitational pull following is more conducive to root growth. I never refrigerate them and have had success for 3 years, in fact I will be putting another 3500 cloves in this weekend; looks like it might be the last nice weekend here in Southwest Ohio. I mulch with Moo-nure because it seems to keep the top soil a little warmer, if it's a nice crisp morning it will still be steaming... Anyway, happy planting!

If you have any deciduous trees around your house I think you can let them be your guide, when most of them have started leafing out from their leaf buds its probably OK to plant. Most years I don't think you have to worry about frost after March first, but I do remember one year when it was bitterly cold in March. For myself my clay soil is the determining factor. I always want to do a final rototilling to try to kill any weeds or bermuda grass that is growing where I plan to plant, and with clay the amount of moisture in the soil is very important, too wet and you have a sticky mess that clumps right back down, too dry and the rototiller blades just bounce off it and I have to get my 66 pound electric jackhammer and 14 pound clay spade for a total of 80 pounds to lug around to dig my planting holes. I also live near the bottom of the north west side of a hill so my yard is usually three degrees colder than the official weather report as the cold air pools in my yard, plus sunrise comes later because of trees above blocking the light from the east.

Next year, look for Tiny Tim seeds. It can be grown in a styrofoam coffee cup and placed on a windowsill when producing. Tiny Tim has a good taste. Other dwarf cherry tomatoes taste terrible (Tumbling Tom, Red Robin, etc.). If you put Tiny Tim in a gallon pot, it gets to be about 18 inches tall, and produces quite a lot. In a coffee cup, it is only 6 inchrs tall and does not have that many tomatoes, but the little plant is covered. Unfortunately, it is determinant, so it stops producing after it gives you a windfall. It is also fussy about care. Wants daily watering and regular fertilizer. Does not tolerate full sun outside. Start the seeds yourself. Then send them to your "suburban place" when transplanted into their pots. When they start producing, put them on your windowsill, and you will have tomatoes to eat. I did that for years when I lived in an apartment.

My climate has multiple freeze/thaw cycles per winter and I have had problems with frost heave on late planted perennials. Thus, I no longer plant perennials after Halloween. I'll plant trees and shrubs late (with lots of mulch) 'cuz they have deeper roots and tend to continue root growth over winter here. If the plant of your desire is a real bargain, of course you should go for it. She whispers: are you aware that adonis blooms early and goes dormant by mid summer? This may not be your kind of plant.
