'Perkins Pink' Yellowwood should be a nice tree choice for your area; especially since you indicate that you are willing to do the training and pruning which the canopy of this very hard, but also brittle type wood in this tree is reported to need. It is nice that this cultivar of American Yellowwood tree is reported to develop a very deep root system and does not develop problem causing surface roots. That is unless the tree is forced to develop a shallow root system if you plant it into tight clay soil which drains slowly. Hope the following training information I found will help with the Yellowwood you choose to plant. Most Google web searches can readily pull up such and even more helpful information. Prune only in summer, since winter or spring pruning results in excessive bleeding. This species typically develops tight branch angles that results in limbs breakage from the trunk. To avoid this, develop a good branch system during the tree's early life. Train the tree with good 'U' shaped branch connections. Since the wood is so heavy, space the branches well to avoid clustering of branches growing from the trunk. The wood in this tree is very hard, heavy and very brittle. For that reason, once you have well trained the young tree, and then as it continues to mature, be ready to remove about 10% of its smaller branches every other year, in the hottest part of summer, to lighten the load of the major branch system. Any dead or damaged wood must be removed as soon as possible. Planting it in an area which does not expose it to strong gusting winds is also a good idea. Finding such a sheltered planting area for the tree might be a little tricky since it also will need to be an area where the tree can still receive adequate sun exposure.
